This time hes accused of trying to overturn his defeat in the last president ial election in the state of georgia. The 13 counts against him include violating georgias law On Racketeering. He is also charged with conspiracy to commit forgery and with making false statements. He says the charges are politically motivated. From washington, sean dilley. Hello, maam. Thank you. This was the moment Fulton County judge Robert Mcburney approved the grand jury s decision to indict donald trump and 18 alleged conspirators On Racketeering charges the same laws used to persue mob bosses. Prosecutors say their investigation was in part prompted by this leaked call between the then president and georgias top election official, brad raffensperger. Among Donald Trumps co defendants, his former white house Chief Of Staff mark meadows and his former attorneys Rudy Giuliani and john eastman. Every individual charge in the indictment is charged with one count of violating georgias Racketeer Influenced and corrupt oganisations act through participation in a criminal enterprise in Fulton County, georgia, and elsewhere to accomplish the illegal goal of allowing donald] trump to thieve the president ial term of Office Beginning onjanuary 20th 21. Speaking ahead of the indictments, the Trump Campaign said the timing of this latest coordinated strike by a biased prosecutor in an overwhelmingly democratic jurisdiction not only betrays the trust of the American People but also exposes true motivation driving their fabricated accusations. This is the fourth time the former president has been indicted. He is due to go on trial in new york next march charged over claims he used his business to hide hush money payments to a porn star. Two months later in may he will stand trial in Florida On Espionage and obstruction charges over claims he held onto classified papers after leaving office. Donald trump has already been charged by federal prosecutors in Washington Dc over allegations he tried to cheat the 2020 election. A trial date has not been set. He denies all charges. Every time they file an indictment, we go way up in the polls. We need one more indictment to close out this election, one more indictment and this election is closed out. Nobody has even a chance. Applause. That was donald trump speaking at a Campaign Rally in alabama. Now he faces 91 counts in four separate criminal cases. All the accused have been given until noon on friday to hand themselves in voluntarily. Sean dilley, bbc news, in washington. Our correspondent wyre davies joins us from washington. Yet more criminal charges against mrtrump whats the political significance of this latest indictment . Well, in the immediate term, short term, he hasjust over a week well, in the immediate term, short term, he has just over a week to what is called surrender to be formally charged in georgia. Then the prosecutor has made it clear that she would like to see a trial within about six months. The significance of that of course is it would be right in the middle of the next president ial Election Campaign donald trump is the leading republican contender as it stands, to did again as president. He says these charges are politically motivated. The difference between these charges and those that have been brought at a federal or National Level is that work trump to be re elected he could theoretically pardon himself on those federal charges, were he to be found guilty. These latest allegations refer to what has happened in the state of georgia. It wouldnt be possible for donald trump, if he were to be elected president again, to absolve himself of those charges were he to be convicted. So in some ways these are more serious charges, more difficult for donald trump to get out of even if he is elected president again of the United States. ~ ,. , president again of the United States. , ~ ,. ,. According to new figures from the office for national statistics, regular pay grew by 7. 8 betweeen april and june thats the highest annual growth rate since current records began but its risen by slightly less than the rate at which prices are increasing. Our economics correspondent, andy verity, reports. In skegness this holiday park has just reopened after a big expansion and refurbishment. It has had to compete with 200 temporary and full time staff away from other employers, bumping up the amount it is paying them by well over 10 was yellow to support the cost of living crisis we have had to adapt our Wage Offering and that involved a 5 pay increase for all the team across haven, alongside the National Living wage we felt that is really supported the team that most need it at this time of crisis. The average pay rise was 7. 8 in the year to june, higherthan it pay rise was 7. 8 in the year to june, higher than it has been in more than 20 years and still not high enough to catch up with prices. Unemployment rose slightly to 4. 2 but it is still low. The number of vacancies advertised has dropped by 66,000 but there are still more than a million, meaning employers have to adapt tojob seekers, not a million, meaning employers have to adapt to job seekers, not the other way around. I adapt to jobseekers, not the other way around way around. I think employers are bein way around. I think employers are being very way around. I think employers are being very flexible way around. Being very flexible which is great because you want somebody reliable and sometimes by giving that little bit of flexibility you get the buy in more, dont you . And that person will be really reliable and turn up. People have children and Health Conditions so they need varied hours. A lot of employers are really good and working with those customers, which is fantastic. The economy maybe customers, which is fantastic. The economy maybe barely growing but many firms are still short of the stuff they need to meet demand from their customers. That is especially true of Skilled Staff like chefs. But it is also because many who expected to come back to work after the pandemic cant because they are ill. This chart shows how many arent working or looking for work, also known as economically inactive, because their long term sick. It keeps on hitting new records for science we have to be thinking about how we can get people back into work it has got to be thinking about what the barriers are to work for those people that have disability and other sick conditions. We have to be thinking long term. Injobs like health and social care, 214,000 have been recruited since last year, easing what was a chronic recruitment shortage. The latest data forjuly suggests employees average pay is no longer rising quite as fast as it was in the previous figures. Signs perhaps that it is slightly easier to get the staff and slightly harder to find work. Andyjoins me now in the studio. You were talking at the end of your report about the number of long term sick. What are the indications of that . It longterm sick. What are the indications of that . Longterm sick. The reasons being that there arent enough people to do all the work thatis enough people to do all the work that is out there. In other words, the supply of workers doesnt meet demand. The Bank Of England was expecting the supply of workers to come back up after the pandemic to meet that demand but because so many people have turned out to be long term sick, it means that maybe it wont. And if you have that mismatch between supply of workers and the man for them, that can mean that those employers who most want to employ will increase the pay and that means domestic inflationary pressure. So the long term sickness means that we as an economy are much more sensitive to inflation and it maybe one of the reasons why our inflation is higher than other countries. Officials on the Island Of Maui in hawaii say they still have 75 of the affected area to search for bodies. At least 99 people are now known to have died as a result of wildfires. More than a thousand people remain unaccounted for with warnings that the number of dead could rise significantly, and now there are further fears the island is about to be hit by more storms. Our correspondent Sophie Long Reports from maui. Survivors say the sound of the wind that day was like the roar of a jet plane. Exploding cars like bombs going off. They describe how the smoke made them choke and vomit as they ran for their lives with their backs burning. Oh, my gosh. Just turn in here. This woman helped a stranded grandmother and young child as she fled with her husband and children. Just going to get to the church. We have our backs to this building and were looking at each other and were like, you know, my son was like, oh, mom, is this it . And i mean, what do you tell your kids . Nearly a week later, and locals continue to load cars with supplies they say people in the Disaster Area still desperately need. There is a lack of response, it felt like, from larger organisations. And we were just looking to get as much aid as possible to where they need to go. We followed amory s convoy along the back road into lahaina. This is what makes maui magical. Wow. And this is whats broken its heart. In lahaina some of the houses that survived have become unofficial aid hubs. Theyre doing their best to look after each other, but theyre frustrated by the lack of clear information. I got the official notice of contamination for water. Somebody at the hotel knows a guy that says, hey, its ok. Somebody else says, hey, do not dont even wash your dishes. Conflicting information constantly, you know . Some people tell us that people down the street dont even know were here. You know, so again, theresjust, like, no communication whatsoever. The children a few doors down were here in lahaina as it burned, their parents unable to get back from work. It was an excruciating 48 hours before this woman learned if her five year old son had survived. Two nights after that, i was reunited with my son. And all that time, you didnt know what had happened . No. I dont know. What happened here in lahaina was one of the most horrifying and lethal disasters to take place in the United States for many years. The Recovery Operation is still ongoing nearly a week on an indication of the extent of the devastation and the number of lives lost. It is a painstakingly difficult task and its about to get harder. More storms are on the way. Hawaiis governor says he expects the search teams to recover the remains of up to 20 bodies every day until their grim and difficult task is done. He couldnt s
