Earlier we had the number seven in terms of victims, but that has jumped up after four people who were being looked for by the Emergency Services, they were confirmed as victims. We also had the other for people who were injured in the fire that you mentioned there being treated by Emergency Services as well, and the authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the death toll could rise even further from this fire. The Prime Minister has posted a message of condolence on social media, and the mayor of murcia has been following events closely and has declared three days of mourning. But what we are hoping is that we wont be hearing an increase in that death toll. But the Emergency Services are still working their way through the rubble, the site is a tremendous mess, as you can imagine, and there is a lot of work to be done still. find can imagine, and there is a lot of work to be done still. Now we are going to go to the United States next, because withjust are going to go to the United States next, because with just minutes to spare, a deal was done to avoid the government shutting down. Take a look at this, this was the moment the deal was approved in the senate after already being approved in the lower house too. What does this mean . It basically means the government workers will be paid, and can keep on turning up to work, so a significant moment. This keeps the government running for another 45 days, when they will have to have another deal to extend it beyond that, and one of the key parts of this was that it excludes money for ukraine, so no more aid for ukraine. That is because some republicans had demanded that. President biden had this to say about it. Tonight, Bipartisan Majorities in the house and senate voted to keep the government open, preventing an unnecessary crisis that would have inflicted needless pain on millions of hard working americans. But he was critical about the lack of new funding for the war in ukraine. He said, we cannot under any circumstances allow american support for ukraine to be interrupted. Ifully support for ukraine to be interrupted. I fully expect the speaker will keep his commitment to the people of ukraine and secure passage of the support needed to help ukraine at this critical moment. Earlier i spoke to Jared Mondshine, whos the director of research at the United States studies centre in australia. Yes, i think this is yet another bipartisan victory both for biden but also for the us congress as a whole. As we saw not too long ago, when there was a major fight over just how much debt the us could incur, and what sort of deal the us could come to, Speaker Mccarthy and joe biden and the democrats came to a table and split off the far right and the far left factions from their negotiations, and they successfully navigated yet another debacle, and this is remarkable because are not many people sort this outcome coming. A lot of folks during the budget, during the deficit debate, had some optimism, and on this one there wasnt a lot of optimism, there wasnt a lot of optimism, there wasnt a lot of optimism, there was a lot of pessimism and expectation that we would face yet another shutdown, expectation that we would face yet anothershutdown, but expectation that we would face yet another shutdown, but fortunately for American Workers in particular, that has been averted. Lets for American Workers in particular, that has been averted. For American Workers in particular, that has been averted. Lets pick up this issue of that has been averted. Lets pick up this issue of the that has been averted. Lets pick up this issue of the war that has been averted. Lets pick up this issue of the war in that has been averted. Lets pick up this issue of the war in ukraine. This issue of the war in ukraine. Why was that excluded . The republicans why was that excluded . The republicans in why was that excluded . Tue republicans in congress why was that excluded . Tte republicans in congress made why was that excluded . Tt2 republicans in congress made clear that they were not going to budge on that, and that is something that as you just mentioned, with mitch mcconnell, the Senate Minority leader, and joe biden, they both see this as a priority for them, but they had to cut the ukrainian funding from the budget to keep the government open. The congressional against the funding, those who want to the current aid were willing to prioritise a shutdown of the government and the us suffering from that catastrophic outcome of yet more dysfunction, they thought that that was less important than ukrainian aid, and that really plays on the sort of isolationist mindset that you see in the Republican Party today. That you see in the Republican Party toda. ,. ,. , that you see in the Republican Party toda. ,. ,. , today. And ust before i let you go, this deal today. And just before i let you go, this deal last today. And just before i let you go, this deal last 45 today. And just before i let you go, this deal last 45 days, today. And just before i let you go, this deal last 45 days, so today. And just before i let you go, this deal last 45 days, so will today. And just before i let you go, this deal last 45 days, so will we i this deal last 45 days, so will we be back in exactly the same place then . , , be back in exactly the same place then . , , then . Thats exactly where they will likel be, then . Thats exactly where they will likely be. But then . Thats exactly where they will likely be, but then then . Thats exactly where they will likely be, but then it then . Thats exactly where they will likely be, but then it is then . Thats exactly where they will likely be, but then it is also likely be, but then it is also exactly where Speaker Mccarthy and joe biden and the democrats do not want to be. In 45 days from now, the us will be hosting the Asia Pacific Economic cooperation summit in the us, and that means that there will be yet another asia oriented meeting that the us president may have to exclude himself from because of domestic political dysfunction, that famously happened earlier whenjoe famously happened earlier when joe biden famously happened earlier Whenjoe Biden couldnt go to a meeting, and that will be a repeat of this. Everyone will want to avoid that, because as much as there is bipartisan dysfunction, there is also bipartisan agreement that asia, the indo pacific, is a priority, and as long as there is dysfunction, they cant really make the region as much of a priority. Much of a priority. Thank you to Jared Mondshine much of a priority. Thank you to Jared Mondshine for much of a priority. Thank you to Jared Mondshine for that. Back to the uk, and we go live to manchester. It is the conservative party conference. Uk Prime Minister rishi sunak is also there. Bbc political correspondent, nick eardley is at the conference and joins me now. The Prime Minister is around, and one of his firstjobs was to speak to laura kuenssberg. One of his first jobs was to speak to laura kuenssberg. One of his first jobs was to speak to laura kuenssberg. Good morning, lewis. To laura kuenssberg. Good morning, lewis yes. To laura kuenssberg. Good morning, lewis yes. He to laura kuenssberg. Good morning, lewis. Yes, he is to laura kuenssberg. Good morning, lewis. Yes, he is trying to laura kuenssberg. Good morning, lewis. Yes, he is trying to to laura kuenssberg. Good morning, lewis. Yes, he is trying to set to laura kuenssberg. Good morning, lewis. Yes, he is trying to set a lewis. Yes, he is trying to set a bit of narrative over the next few days. It is probably a few months, may be just over a year, until the general election in the uk, so rishi sunak is going to try and use this conference as a bit of a launch pad for a bit of a reset to try and close the gap in the polls with labour. But one thing that has become pretty clear is he is not the only one trying to set the narrative. There are a lot of Conservative Mps who want him to go faster, to be bolder, and to promise certain things, and the one that keeps coming up when you chat to certain wings of the conservative party is tax cuts. There are a lot of tory mps who think that people in the uk are paying too much tax, and it needs to come down before the general election if the conservatives are going to have any chance of winning. We had one cabinet minister, michael gove, out saying that he wants to see tax cuts before the general election. We have a group of 30 tory mps who have signed a Letter Putting Pressure on rishi sunak when it comes to tax. Liz truss, the former Prime Minister, didnt end well for her when she cut tax, but she has not gone away and she is going to be here tomorrow making the argument dub this morning rishi sunak was on bbc one with laura kuenssberg, and he was asked that, is he going to cut tax. Your close colleague michael gove this morning said you should commit to cutting taxes for working people before the next election. When you make that commitment . The best tax cut we can give is to halve inflation. So you wont . So, no Firm Commitment there really. There has also been no Firm Commitment from the government when it comes to the Hs2 Rail Line which is supposed to end here in manchester. There has been a lot of speculation over the last few days that the leg between birmingham and manchester is about to be axed, there are a lot of people in government who think that is going to happen. But rishi sunak and his ministers have been very, very reluctant to talk about it. Yes or no, will hs2 come to this part of the world . There are already spades in the ground. That is not the question. Is it coming here . We are not going to comment on all this speculation. We have spades on the ground, but we are focusing on levelling up. Can ijust stop you there. You are the Prime Minister of this country. This is not asking you about speculation. You are not a columnist or a backbencher with an axe to grind, not someone from the rail industry, you are the Prime Minister of this country. This is your decision. Is this going to happen or not . As i said, we have got spades in the ground and im not going to comment on further speculation. What i can tell you where doing is committed to levelling up across this country. Just today we have announced a new plan to put a Long Term Plan to focus on people in towns. Now, people who watch political interviews regularly will know that it is not surprising that ministers and politicians sometimes dont quite answer the question. But i think it is a bit of an awkward juxtaposition for rishi sunak, because the big picture around this Conference Centre that is emblazoned on posters all over the place, i can see one over there, it says long term decisions for a brighter future. But rishi sunak is trying to persuade voters that he is going to take the big, strategic course, even if they are difficult, if he thinks they are in the best interests of they are in the best interests of the country. There is a couple, on tax and hs2, where he was asked pretty direct questions, and he didnt want to give an answer. I expect there will be more of those questions over the next few days. Nick, thank you for that. Lets head to poland now, in the capital, warsaw. Tens of thousands of people are marching through the polish capital, warsaw, ahead of parliamentary elections later this month. Theyre Opposition Supporters hoping to stop the ruling right wing Party Winning a third term in office. Meanwhile in neighbouring slovakia, a pro Russian Party has emerged as the largest in its parliamentary election. Until now slovakia had been a staunch backer of ukraine. 0ur Eastern Europe correspondent Sarah Rainsford joins us from warsaw. What are we seeing here in these countries which both border ukraine . As you were just mentioning, huge, huge march through the centre of warsaw. You can see it all around me. The crowd is enormous, lots and lots of polish flags in both directions all the way up and down the street. People have come with their children, they brought their pets, a lot of the wearing Red And White ribbons as well, and they are portraying this as a patriotically march, a march from poland, for pole ands future. They have labelled it the much of a million hearts, and donald tusk is right at the front of this vast march through the city. And he is calling this a vote about specifically polands future. He has been sending the message clearly throughout this Election Campaign that it throughout this Election Campaign thatitis throughout this Election Campaign that it is democracy itself that is in danger here in poland, that its basic fundamental principles are being eroded by this government, and it is time for the opposition to step up and take over. Of course the ruling law and Justice Party has a lot of support in the country, particularly in the countryside, particularly in the countryside, particularly amongst rural and conservative voters. This opposition believes that fundamental things like the rule of law, the freedom of the media, are at stake here, and those of the things they are coming out to vote for. People are saying it is a vote for the future, there are a lot of children here, and it is a vote for them as well. They are also talking about this government being a danger to the eu future of poland, and donald tusk himself has said that the ruling party wants to take poland out of the eu, and if it carries on the way it is going, that is what will happen. So it is being seen as a critical election, the opposition saying the most important election since 1989, the beginning of democracy in this country and the end of communism here. Interesting. And what do you make of where the elections, and the results were just seeing in slovakia . T were just seeing in slovakia . I think it certainly suggests that scepticism and perhaps fatigue with support for the war in ukraine could be increasing in europe. We will certainly be sending worrying signals in terms of eu support for the war in ukraine. We have also seen worrying signals here in poland in recent days,
