Welcome to verified live, three hours of breaking stories, and checking out the truth behind them. Israel has ruled out allowing basic resources or humanitarian aid into gaza until hamas releases the hostages it abducted during the weekend attack. At least 1,300 israelis were killed in the assault, and at least 150 people are thought to have been kidnapped. Israels total blockade of gaza means food and clean water are running out, the Mains Electricity is cut and raw sewage is building up in the streets. Gazas Health Ministry say israels Sustained Bombardment has now killed more than 1,400 people nearly a third of them children. The red cross says the blockade risks turning gazas hospitals into mortuaries, warning fuel for generators could run out on thursday. But Israels Energy minister has insisted no electricity, fuel or Water Supplies will be turned on until the hostages are home. The us Secretary Of State has assured israel of washingtons unwavering support, and warned its adversaries against taking advantage of the situation. Speaking after talks in tel aviv with the Prime Minister, benjamin netanyahu, Antony Blinken said israel had the right to defend itself , but stressed precautions must be taken to avoid harming civilians of any nationality. But first, tom bateman sent this report. This was the aftermath as israel bombed an Apartment Block in gaza just after dawn. Its a packed refugee camp to where residents say others had already fled, trying to get to safety from the air raids. At least 15 people from two families were killed here, say Palestinian Health officials. They bombed without warning, says this resident. This is murder. Its huge. Everyone has to do something. My family is ok, but the camp is not safe, he says. Many are wounded, but the hospitals are now running on generators. After israels Siege Cut The Power to gaza, food and clean water are running out, too. Israel says there will be no supplies until its hostages are freed. Rights groups are calling it an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. The bombardment of gaza has been near relentless. The army says it is targeting hamas s entire structure, its senior fighters and now its political leaders until the group is crushed. Schools have become shelters from air strikes, the children are shocked. Theyre having nervous breakdowns. We adults couldnt stand on our feet either out of fear, says this mother. Meanwhile, the rocket fire has continued from gaza into israel. Direct hits on homes wounded five people, one critically, in one of the worst affected towns this morning. Its mayor is calling for the world to back a lengthy israeli assault on gaza. Thank you for all the leadership of the country that support israel. You need to say to netanyahu, take your time if you need your our weapon, if you need our soldier, we need to destroy it. With the region braced for even further escalation. Israels troop build up goes on, one of its biggest mobilizations ever. The army says it is readying itself for a Ground Invasion of gaza, but there are no decisions about when. This morning, the us Secretary Of State, Antony Blinken, arrived. The us is fully backing israel but trying to stop a wider flare up in the middle east. And mr blinken spoke with israels Prime Minister. Hamas is isis. And just as isis was crushed, so too will hamas be crushed. And hamas should be treated exactly the way isis was treated. They should be spit out from the community of nations. No leader should meet them. No country should harbour them. And those that do should be sanctioned. As the ground offensive looms, this fighting is about to get much worse and the concerns will only grow over whether it can be contained. Tom bateman, bbc news, jerusalem. Lets hearfrom lyce doucet, our chief international correspondent. She gives an update from sderot. Lets pick up on tom bateman s last point about the certainty of this war will get worse. We have been in the south for a few days and you can hear the military activity intensifying. We have been in this Border Town Of Sderot for a few hours, less than a mile at this point to the border with gaza and you can see the plumes of black smoke. The smoke drips throughout the day as it comes under non smoke bombardment. The mortars have been going all day and just before we came on air there was a thundering crack of israels Ireland Dome Defence system which means it is starting to send rockets here into this strip of Southern Israel along the gaza border. When we approached sderot there was a constant parade of lorries, huge, white and to lorries carrying provisions for soldiers who are now massing on the front line. Thousands of israeli soldiers, more tanks and every day we see the build up. Many of these border towns are like ghost towns. So many people have left. But here in sderot which has always taken the brunt of this war because it is so close to gaza, it has always been targeted by Hamas Rockets for decades, when we met the mayor he was in a very angry mood as he went around the town. He has a message for his government and also the rest of the world as well. You have asked Prime Minister netanyahu to evacuate all the residents of your town the . 0f all the residents of your town the . Of course, because i want to give to the government and the army a time to make the war against the hamas. This is a dangerous place because we are so close to the border with gaza. I know i speak to you a few times in the last days. You see the missiles that land on the town, you see all the injured from the rockets. It is good for the families to be outside from the city. People have not left to be outside from the city. People have not left already . To be outside from the city. People have not left already . Imagine to be outside from the city. People | have not left already . Imagine your famil , have not left already . Imagine your family. This have not left already . Imagine your family. This is have not left already . Imagine your family, this is the have not left already . Imagine your family, this is the responsibility family, this is the responsibility of the country to give them support that they need. Of the country to give them support that they need of the country to give them support that they need. What is the mood in sderot . You that they need. What is the mood in sderot . You always that they need. What is the mood in sderot . You always bear that they need. What is the mood in sderot . You always bear the that they need. What is the mood in sderot . You always bear the brunt, | sderot . You always bear the brunt, youre so close to gaza whenever a crisis erupts. We youre so close to gaza whenever a crisis mats youre so close to gaza whenever a Crisis Eruats crisis erupts. We love our city, we love the state crisis erupts. We love our city, we love the state of crisis erupts. We love our city, we love the state of israel. Crisis erupts. We love our city, we love the state of israel. My crisis erupts. We love our city, we love the state of israel. My heart| love the state of israel. My heart is breaking when i speak with all the family that lose their father or mother, that are murdered. The terrorists murdered them. My heart is breaking but we need to make the job with the people, we need to take care of the people that live here and i hope we have the courage to continue and smash the jihadists. You heard a little bit more about what he means when he talks, i hope we have the courage. A bit of that interview was on tom bateman s package. You not only has a message for his government but for western leaders, including Antony Blinken who spent today meeting the israeli Prime Minister, benjamin netanyahu, and the us Secretary Of State also met senior members of Prime Minister netanyahus new war cabinet, and that includes the defence minister. He said, i asked him, that includes the defence minister. He said, iasked him, there that includes the defence minister. He said, i asked him, there have been so many operations, so many Military Operations that have promised to make your Community Free of the rockets and promised to actually stop hamas from having the capabilities to send these rockets into israel and he said the reason why all those Military Operations fail is that after one week or two weeks the leaders of britain, the United States and other countries call up the Prime Minister and say stop, you have to stop now. The last escalation in 2014 lasted 50 days. There was again untold destruction and death is on both sides but here we are five days into this crisis and the numbers are already higher in terms of the death count in israel, the death count in the palestinian side, the number of displaced people. And western leaders one after another have stood up leaders one after another have stood up and said israel have the right to defend themselves but i think Antony Blinken will also be saying in private, you have to think about the condemnation israel will come under if it is seen to be violating the laws of war. Even president biden, who has almost given israel Carte Blanche on his first Public Comments and said do what you need to do, but he urged them to respect the Geneva Conventions which are very clear that Targeting Civilians in a time of war is a war crime, and that includes the Siege Of Gaza. We have been reporting hour after hour through our correspondence, people are suffering, and that suffering is going to get a lot worse. The big question is if views in israel have hardened. People and politicians of use have our board. After the horrific events that unfolded on saturday, notjust with storming into communities like this and taking people hostage, everything from 18 month old babies to survivors of the holocaust. That has really made israelis think about this in a new way. They already want a tough action but now they are taking action which is terrifying for the people of gaza. Just an update on those trying to get out of israel. We had a short time ago that the British Government is now starting repatriation flights out of israel for its citizens. Cyprus airlines, which was a route for people wanting to get out, are announcing they have suspended all flights to tel aviv until further notice. And another line to bring you from reuters news agency, jewish schools in amsterdam are to close on friday according to the dutch press agency, one would presume over security fears, and in the last hour orso security fears, and in the last hour or so we have heard that anti semitic incidents in the uk have more than quadrupled since the hamas attack on israel, that is according to a charity which is responsible for security for many jewish people here in the uk. As we have also been hearing the us Secretary Of StateAntony Blinken is an israel right now meeting with the israeli Prime Minister and held a News Conference, he will hold another News Conference shortly in tel aviv. We can see the scene right now. He will hold another News Conference and will be taking questions from journalists, we will bring that to you as soon as he does appear on that podium. Earlier i spoke to the Communication Advisor for the norwegian refugee council. She called for immediate humanitarian access to gaza. They have dozens of their staff and gaza at the moment. We have dozens of their staff and gaza at the moment. At the moment. We are in contact with our staff at the moment. We are in contact with our staff in at the moment. We are in contact with our staff in gaza at the moment. We are in contact with our staff in gaza as at the moment. We are in contact with our staff in gaza as of at the moment. We are in contact with our staff in gaza as of earlierj with our staff in gaza as of earlier this afternoon all our staff had been accounted for though many displaced. The accounts we are hearing from our colleagues in gaza are simply terrifying. 0ur Colleagues are facing bombardment on a daily and nightly basis. Just last night i received a text message from a colleague in gaza that the house directly behind the one he was seeking shelter in the had been targeted. He described people being forced to dig through rubble looking forced to dig through rubble looking for survivors and people who had been killed, using their bare hands until they could finally track down a bulldozer to help with the recovery effort. These are just a snippet of the stories we are hearing about people fleeing for safety, and then being killed in the shelters they have sought. There really is no safe place in gaza, we have had colleagues in Gaza Doing Media interviews themselves than having to seek cover and to cut interviews short because of the bombardment happening around them. When i am on the phone with my colleagues we can hear the bombardment. There is no safe place in gaza for the 2. 3 million civilians who are living there. We are Ust Civilians who are living there. We are just looking at pictures of gaza with black plumes of smoke in the air as those bombardments continue for now. When you say there is no safe place to go, we understand that there are Un Facilities that people have sought shelter in. Is that the case, are they safe . Mr; case, are they safe . My understanding case, are they safe . My understanding is case, are they safe . Ij i understanding is that case, are they safe . M understanding is that around case, are they safe . M; understanding is that around 350,000 palestinians have already been internally displaced and about two thirds of those are seeking shelter in Un Facilities. Those Un Facilities are meant to be the conflicted areas, areas that are safe from bombardment, but we have already heard reports about damage caused to some of these facilities including two un schools that are being used as shelters. Gaza as you know is one of the most densely populated places on earth, the buildings are very close together, and so it is very difficult to avoid having Collateral Damage to Un Facilities or other safe places when it is such a tightly compacted place and when we are hearing about indiscriminate air strikes and shelling on gaza.
