Israel says its moved thousands of extra troops to the region. British Prime Minister rishi sunak is injerusalem for his two day visit to the middle east. Mr sunak met israeli president isaac herzog and expressed personal condolences over the loss of life. He told the president that the uk stands in solidarity with israel and backed its right to defend itself. Mr sunak s office said the men agreed on the importance of getting aid to ordinary palestinians in gaza and stressed the need to avoid Futher Escalation across the region. Mr sunak is also expected to meet Prime Minister benjamin netanyahu. Lets speak to our Diplomatic Correspondent paul adams, whos here with me. We have been talking throughout the morning about this very long list of four rishi sunak, ada sagi, trying to express the need to avoid an escalation of conflict throughout this inflamed region, but also the Micro Concerns for british Passport Holders, amongst Palestinian Civilians in gaza and the hostages taken to gaza by Palestinian Militants on the 7th Of October. There are so much to talk about and urgently try and address. On that regional dimension, despite the fact we are hearing once again of disturbances along the northern border, clashes with hezbollah, i am quite struck by the fact we have not seenin quite struck by the fact we have not seen in the wake of what happened in gaza, the explosion at the hospital and all the furore surrounding it, we have not seen an enormous reaction or a lot of heated rhetoric from iran, as some people fear we might. So perhaps, just perhaps that regional dimension has receded somewhat rather than advanced. The famous last words and it could get worse but at the moment perhaps it is not quite as dangerous as it seemed at first. There are other things that are incredibly dont make the Aid Situation is vital. Mr sunak is here and James Cleverly is talking to egypt about their side of trying to get the aid convoy into gaza. We think that will happen tomorrow. It will be somewhat experimental, just 20 trucks at first, a drop in the ocean in terms of what is ray needed. And on that question of what is needed, a tweet this morning from a doctor who we have been hearing a lot of over the last week or so, in a hospital in Gaza Saints Vinegarfrom last week or so, in a hospital in gaza saints vinegar from the corner shop is being used to treat bacterial infections. The need for medication is absolutely vital and thatis medication is absolutely vital and that is one of the components of the aid that is going into gaza as early as tomorrow. Aid that is going into gaza as early as tomorrow as tomorrow. Good i ust stop you there, because as tomorrow. Good i ust stop you there, because we as tomorrow. Good i just stop you there, because we were as tomorrow. Good i just stop you there, because we were talking i as tomorrow. Good i just stop you there, because we were talking about this glimmer of hope, the idea of the 20 truck convoy being able to go to the gaza strip with this much needed aid as of tomorrow, but we have to emphasise that it is a drop in the ocean if it arrives, and yet it may not arrive or it could be interrupted because israel backed by the us says if there are signs of any of the side being taken by hamas for its use it would be stopped, but for its use it would be stopped, but for practical point again this morning we have been talking about hamas ands many hats, a militant armed organisation, also the governor of gaza. find armed organisation, also the governor of gaza. If you look at the map my understanding other side. If you look at the map my understanding is other side. If you look at the map my understanding is that other side. If you look at the map my understanding is that aid other side. If you look at the map my understanding is that aid has | other side. If you look at the map i my understanding is that aid has to cross over and then make its way just a few kilometres along the border fence and of the mediterranean toes to a little area which the israeli identified yesterday as the place where palestinians can receive humanitarian aid. That little corridor needs to be secured. It will be up to the un and the International Community of the red cross to surprise at stop obviously they are not armed. If hamas decide they are not armed. If hamas decide they want to interfere with that there is nothing new and can do to stop that. Theres quite a bit the israelis could do to stop that. The israelis could do to stop that. The israelis have made it absolutely clear if we see any signs that hamas is trying to exploit the situation that hamas is trying play sound on any of this aid, we have ways of bringing the whole thing to a halt. So it does hang by a thread. It does require the cooperation of many parties, the israelis, egyptians, hamas and the lowest of it, but at the moment Clearlyjoe Biden felt that what he had identified by the end of his trip yesterday was a deal that could work. It end of his trip yesterday was a deal that could work. That could work. It was interesting, many aspects that could work. It was interesting, many aspects of that could work. It was interesting, many aspects of the that could work. It was interesting, many aspects of the joe that could work. It was interesting, many aspects of the joe bidens many aspects of the joe biden s visit yesterday but one of the points said he said he also had very frank discussions with israels Prime Minister benjamin netanyahu, was to say dont react in anger, and he looked back to how the us reacted after 911 and he basically said dont get carried away by your angen dont get carried away by your anger, and we look back to the 7th Of October and we have to say unprecedented attacks on israels soil, it has because not only trauma to the fabric, National Trauma to the country, 11100 people sorted, over 200 hostages taken into the gaza strip, but this morning from a staunch ally us and uk today, remember the rules of war. I thought esterda remember the rules of war. I thought yesterday was remember the rules of war. I thought yesterday was a remember the rules of war. I thought yesterday was a really remember the rules of war. I thought yesterday was a really important, yesterday was a really important, perhaps one of the most important speeches joe perhaps one of the most important Speechesjoe Biden has made as president. He is often characterised and mocked for being elderly and a bit bumbling. Here was the wisdom of an old man, saying, we made mistakes after 9 11. We were consumed by rats and rage, and also result of that our actions were not proportionate or wise. Our actions were not proportionate orwise. Our actions were not proportionate or wise. Consumed by wrath. An indirect reference to a whole terrible chapter of history, specifically in iraq. He is saying to benjamin netanyahu, for god sake dont make the same mistakes we made. Observe the rules of war, dont fight according to the rules of terrorist groups, fight according to your own values, values that you come at the israelis and United States share. It was an incredibly powerful message, designed to try to the extent that he can to influence the extent that he can to influence the way israel conducts its military operations. Forthe the way israel conducts its military operations. For the first time israel has brought, it has allowed The Americans into their Decision Making process. Antony blinken sitting in on a Cabinet Meeting for eight hours, the president arriving here before it has even begun, these are completely unprecedented moments. And because The Americans had been allowed into The Americans had been allowed into the Decision Making process it gives them a measure of influence on how israel will ultimately operate. How that influence is actually manifested, when it happens, we will have to see. You manifested, when it happens, we will have to see have to see. You talk about when it ha ens, have to see. You talk about when it happens. We have to see. You talk about when it happens. We come have to see. You talk about when it happens, we come back have to see. You talk about when it happens, we come back to have to see. You talk about when it happens, we come back to the have to see. You talk about when it happens, we come back to the ideaj have to see. You talk about when it i happens, we come back to the idea of the Ground Offensive. Pretty much immediately after those september the 11th, sorry 7th Of October attacks inside israel, there was immediate speculation fuelled by israeli authorities as well, of an imminent Ground Offensive, them saying we need to wipe out hamas, we wipe out a mass mic, rishi sunak here today, joe biden yesterday saying israel has a right to defend itself, so the thinking is, we could be looking again now at the start of a Ground Offensive. You mention fragility, just a few months ago, how are these Palestinian Civilians safeguard, their safety taken into account at the same time as israel saying we want to wipe out hamas in a territory that is so overcrowded as we await site and so tiny. From one life to the other, i dont want to be flippant, the length of a marathon. To be flippant, the length of a marathon to be flippant, the length of a marathon. , ,. , marathon. The bottom line is, you cannot reconcile marathon. The bottom line is, you cannot reconcile those marathon. The bottom line is, you cannot reconcile those two cannot reconcile those two objectives. You cannot tell 2. 3 million palestinians go and crowd in one tiny little part of the Southern Gaza strip while we obliterate a rest. That is just not going to happen. So when a Ground Offensive comes, everyone recognises it is going to be brutal and bloody and costly. I have covered previous rounds of this and when i arrived last time in 2014 the israelis had conducted a of air strikes and went underground. It was pretty quick. It has already been 12 days now and we still not, i dont get a sense the Ground Operation is absolutely imminent. It is taking the israelis quite long time to get ready for this, just because the International Community, The Americans, brits are saying hang on, but because actually what they are saying out to do this time he so much more complicated, so much more comprehensive than anything they have tried before, that they know themselves that they need time to make sure it works because otherwise an awful lot of Palestinian Civilians are going to die and a lot of plot of is very soldiers are going to die and an awful lot of hostages are going to die. All sorts of reasons to just wait. Die. All sorts of reasons to ust wait. . , die. All sorts of reasons to ust wait. . , die. All sorts of reasons to ust wait. . ,. ,. ,. , wait. But in the meantime a lot of palestinian wait. But in the meantime a lot of Palestinian Civilians wait. But in the meantime a lot of Palestinian Civilians are wait. But in the meantime a lot of Palestinian Civilians are suffering. Palestinian civilians are suffering continued to suffer, those images seen around the world on social media and here on the bbc and elsewhere, and inflaming passions, you say, from the wider picture you dont get a sense immediately of a region about to erupt into violence, but on the street there is a lot of anger across the arab world. We saw again overnight use demonstrations in beirut, in the west bank here In The City Of Ramallah and elsewhere, and the leaders of countries, whether it is lebanon orjordan, they will keep an eye on what people are doing on the street. The they will keep an eye on what people are doing on the street. Are doing on the street. The arab street is a are doing on the street. The arab street is a noisy are doing on the street. The arab street is a noisy place are doing on the street. The arab street is a noisy place at are doing on the street. The arab street is a noisy place at the are doing on the street. The arab street is a noisy place at the bestj street is a noisy place at the best of times. It is a place where strong powerful, sometimes violent emotions are expressed. And sometimes leaders allow that and sometimes leaders suppress that. Interestingly some of that anger was directed in ramallah at the palestinian leadership, the elderly palestinian president mahmoud abbas, notjust that israel, so there is this enormous swelling of anger, and a profound unshakeable belief that what happened at the hospital two days ago was the result of an israeli air strike, not an errant palestinian missile as israel argues. That belief will never be changed, it doesnt matter how much the israelis gave in terms of evidence to suggest that it was a misfiring missile, at that Angle Willjust be expressed, it will maybe paid, but unlikely to fade very much given that every day brings fresh word of suffering, people displaced, people dying in hospitals, of malnutrition, thirst and hunger, all of these things are fuelling all of this on a day to day basis, but yes, at the moment it doesnt feel to me as if the world outside the gaza strip is about to erupt. But obviously when the moment comes, when israel decides to pull the trigger to send its troops then, that will be another moment of extreme peril across the region. Paul adams, thank you forjoining us. Our Diplomatic Correspondent. We were amongst so many other aspects of the current conflict discussing of the current conflict discussing of course the humanitarian situation on the ground in gaza. Live now to James Denselow he is the head of conflict and humanitarian advocacy at Save The Children. Could you illustrate on the ground, we mentioned, 50 of the population in gaza is under the age of 18, so when we talk about civilian suffering in gaza, this includes a lot of young people and children. Tragically we have seen over a thousand children reported killed, one every 15 minutes, thousands who have been injured in a population not this the majority of whom are children but also the majority of whom are dependent on humanitarian aid. As you havejust whom are dependent on humanitarian aid. As you have just discussed, what could happen tomorrow in the entry of these 20 trucks into gaza is a glimmer of hope. What we really need to do is get behind that and turnit need to do is get behind that and turn it into a beacon of humanity because they need is absolutely vast and at present we havent been able to get anything in. We and at present we havent been able to get anything in to get anything in. We were hearing there from save to get anything in. We were hearing there from save the to get anything in. We were hearing there from Save The Children to get anything in. We were hearing there from Save The Children about| there from Save The Children about there from Save The Children about the situation on the ground there. I think we can bring you some live pictures of gaza this morning, where israeli air strikes have surrounded overnight. We will come back to James Denselow in a second, where israel has said it has carried out air strikes overnight. And into the morning as well. James denselow, for people on the ground israel says that it aims its strike at hamas, and hamas infrastructure, not at civilians. We talk also about what an overcrowded place gaza is. Israel says that hamas stations itself very closely to civilian and civilian infrastructure. The result of all of this is that civilians are suffering on the ground. On the ground. Indeed. Over a million palestinians on the ground. Indeed. Over a million palestinians in on the
