Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Kirana Merchants Association on Thursday announced self lockdown by shutting shops in Begum Bazaar, the largest wholesale trade hub, by 5 pm from April 9 as the cases of coronavirus continue to increase.
However, the state government has made it very clear that it would not consider imposing a lockdown. According to the guidelines announced in the meeting, the shops open must only between 9 am and 5 pm. “Considering the spike in Coronavirus cases we decided to reduce the business hours,” said the general secretary of the association, Mahesh Kumar Gupta, addressing the media. The association stressed wearing masks, regular sanitization and maintaining a safe distance while selling goods. It also recommended reminding the customers to follow proper covid guidelines. “If any customer or staff member doesn't wear a mask, remind them. If they don't have a mask, provide them masks,” said the Kumar as reported by Deccan Herald.
