The deadline is approaching for Duval County residents who are behind on rent and utility bills to apply for relief if their financial problems stemmed from losing a job or take-home pay because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The deadline to apply is 6 p.m. Friday for a shot at getting months of back rent covered. A national moratorium on evictions has helped renters who are past due but that moratorium will expire at the end of June. The Jacksonville program has fielded 9,605 applications. Out of those applications, 3,836 have been completed and 5,769 applications are in progress, according to the United Way of Northeast Florida, which partnered with the city to administer the relief outreach.
