Behind on rent? Deadline is Friday to apply for help in Jacksonville.

The deadline is approaching for Duval County residents who are behind on rent and utility bills to apply for relief if their financial problems stemmed from losing a job or take-home pay because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The deadline to apply is 6 p.m. Friday for a shot at getting months of back rent covered. A national moratorium on evictions has helped renters who are past due but that moratorium will expire at the end of June.
The Jacksonville program has fielded 9,605 applications. Out of those applications, 3,836 have been completed and 5,769 applications are in progress, according to the United Way of Northeast Florida, which partnered with the city to administer the relief outreach. ....

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Skyrocketing housing prices might be great news if you’re a current homeowner, but what about folks looking for affordable housing options in our area?
Carrie Davis with Wealth Watchers, an organization dedicated to providing affordable housing opportunities, pointed out that the average price for homeownership, according to the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors, is $240,000.
That’s far out of the range of what’s considered affordable housing, she said.
She said the median income in Jacksonville, according to HUD, is $75,000, so folks making about $60,000 a year are considered moderate income. Affordable housing is defined as housing available to those who make less than the median income. ....
