May 10, 2021 Belize Calls for Access to COVID-19 Vaccines during CARICOM Meeting The Twenty-Fourth Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations of the Caribbean Community was held virtually on May sixth and seventh, 2021 under the chairmanship of Eamon Courtenay, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration. Minister Courtenay called for CARICOM’s continued advocacy for fair, equitable and timely access to COVID-19 vaccines. He also stressed that development partners and international financial institutions need to take a more tailored approach for small and vulnerable economies to access concessional financing and debt relief. Minister Courtenay also briefed his colleagues on the recent development in the Belize/Guatemala process. The region’s bilateral relations with traditional and new partners, the economic and social disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, the threat of climate change, the highly anticipated COP26, and the important issue of migration also formed part of the agenda. Ambassador Amalia Mai, C.E.O. in the ministry; Lawrence Sylvester, Ambassador of Belize to CARICOM; Ayesha Borland, Director of International Affairs; and Foreign Service Officer Amaris Leal also formed part of the Belize delegation.
