The domestic equity barometers were trading in a narrow range with steep losses in early afternoon trade. Auto stocks declined across the board. A spike in domestic coronavirus cases and localized lockdown being announced by various state governments dented investors sentiment. At 12:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 1141.84 points or 2.34% to 47,690.19. The Nifty 50 index lost 340.70 points or 2.33% to 14,277.20. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 2.20% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index slipped 1.89%. The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 594 shares rose and 2196 shares fell. A total of 169 shares were unchanged.
