(Adding video, comments from Recreational Services manager) BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Bend Park and Recreation District announced Tuesday that the Larkspur Community Center: Home of the Bend Senior Center will open its doors on Monday, April 5, and NewsChannel 21 got a sneak peek inside the expansive new facility. “This vibrant space is going to build upon the legacy of the Bend senior center and be able to serve people of all ages and abilities,” Sue Glenn, recreational services manager for the park district, said Tuesday. Glenn says incorporating accessibility was paramount when constructing the $23 million facility (which came in $196,000 below budget, according to BPRD spokeswoman Julie Brown). One of the biggest ways they did that was by getting an ADA lift -- the first of its kind in North America -- that allows someone in a wheelchair to independently use the pools.
