Berks commissioners want to keep public comments focused on county topics

The Berks County commissioners are considering changes to the way the board handles comments from the public at its meetings.
During an operations meeting Tuesday, the commissioners supported limiting comments to issues that directly involve the county, noting a need to focus their time and attention on matters that are germane to county government.
Commissioners Chairman Christian Y. Leinbach first suggested the possible changes at a meeting last month after coming across a similar policy that Montgomery County officials had enacted.

"I understand that there are a wide variety of issues that people want to get out to the public," he said at that meeting. "I am not being critical of your particular national or state issue. But I really want to focus our attention on issues that we need to address here at the county level."
