MONTPELIER â A new bill seeks to regulate properties being used for short-term rentals like lodging establishments if operators donât meet certain residency requirements. âThereâs a whole host of hospitality regulations that work really well here,â said state Rep. Emilie Kornheiser, D-Windham-2-1, who introduced the bill known as H.200. âI think some people are interpreting this as no one can ever rent out a property to tourists ever again.â Kornheiser acknowledged that older Vermonters may have a lot of extra space in their home they want to rent out to help with their mortgage or property taxes, and younger residents may have a large house with extra rooms they want to occasionally rent out. She said the bill wouldnât seek to regulate them like lodging establishments.
