Pay attention to your finances by creating a budget.
The Reno Memo is free, but actual journalism costs money -- specifically, $1 for 6 months.
Good news: It turns out the average monthly bills in Reno are solidly below the national average, according to online bill-pay service Doxo -- an average of $931, while the typical American household pays $1,016. Among the savings, compared to the the national averages:
Auto loans: 8.3% lower
House poor
How much money does it take to afford the average house in the red-hot Reno-Sparks real estate market? It's not a specific number, unfortunately -- start by checking your income, credit scores and existing debt, and your appetite for how much of your income you want to spend on having a roof over your head. While you were running those numbers, some San Leandro expat just snagged the last available house for $35,000 over the asking price. Jason Hidalgo walks you through the numbers here.
