Bin rounds changed thanks to 'live data plan'

THOUSANDS of households in north Dorset have recently had their bin collection rounds changed as part of a project by the council which used live data to try and calculate the most efficient routes and schedules for the area.
Around 34,000 households in and around the north of the county had their bin collections changed earlier this month Starting in late 2020, the project draws upon live data from a vehicle tracking system.
An administrative team from the council then began crunching the numbers and looking at ways that bin collection rounds could potentially be changed and improved.
Once the data had been analysed by back-office employees, supervisors and the area manager, the team took their findings to front line staff. Drawing upon local knowledge from waste collection crews and drivers, the rounds were finalised and affected households were identified.
