During a meeting Friday, the Board of Regents unanimously voted to approve WSU Athletics’ revisions to the fiscal year 2021 revised budget, the proposed fiscal year 2022 budget and a proposal to cover this year’s deficit. According to documents from the Board of Regents meeting, these three plans in conjunction are set to get athletics back on track to financial stability by fiscal year 2023. The new budget means that athletics will receive $35.6 million in external funding through general university bonds. These bonds are set to be paid back through future Pac-12 media and bowl revenue distributions, according to the documents. The bonds much reach their maturity by Oct. 1, 2041, with a maximum interest rate of five percent. This means that all bonds must be paid off by the beginning of October 2041 and bonds can only accrue a maximum of five percent interest per year.
