The vaccines have been touted as being highly effective at preventing severe illness and hospitalizations, and about 76% of the county’s population is fully vaccinated. But how many vaccinated individuals have still tested positive for COVID-19 — known as breakthrough cases? “What we’re seeing is about 1.7% of our cases are breakthrough cases, and that’s all the way back to Jan. 22, so that’s when people could be fully vaccinated,” Summit County Public Health Director Amy Wineland said.
