BROCKTON — A Brockton man who last week pleaded guilty to assault and kidnapping charges attempted days later to kill the woman with an active restraining order against him by setting fire to her home, prosecutors said. The Plymouth County district attorney's office said Monday that a warrant has been issued for Laroy Cox, 48, on three counts of attempted murder and one count each of arson of a swelling, malicious destruction of property under $1,200 and violation of a restraining order. Prosecutors say Cox "set fire to the Brockton apartment of a victim with an active restraining order out against him." Deputy Fire Chief Edward Williams said last week that investigators believe the fire originated in the home's basement and was intentionally set.
