Brothers killed in First World War set to have names added to Dunbar's memorial

A MAN who died the day before the First World War ended will have his name added to Dunbar’s war memorial – more than a century after his death.
William Welsh died of wounds received in action on November 10, 1918, and was buried at Jemappes Communal Cemetery in Belgium.
Now, William, who was 37 when he died, and his younger brother Richard, who died of “influenza and pneumonia attributable to active service” three months later, will have their names added to the memorial on Marine Road.
Herbert Coutts, from the town’s community council, has been leading an initiative to ensure the names of people connected to the town who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars have not been left off the war memorial. Since the scheme was started in 2017, more than a dozen names have been added.
