Bruce Rushton has been terminated from his position as staff writer for Illinois Times due to his behavior and public comments at a June 16 press conference outside the Sangamon County jail. “We do not condone such behavior,” said Fletcher Farrar, editor and owner of the newspaper. “That’s not who we are. Reporters are held to a high standard.” Farrar said the decision to terminate was not taken lightly, but is necessary. He will contact press conference organizers to apologize for the comments and disruption. Rushton has been employed at Illinois Times for 10 years. Illinois Times has provided readers with independent journalism for more than 40 years, from news and politics to arts and culture.
