Builders do not believe the federal government's planned bill to split the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union will stop the militancy of the building division led by John Setka or alter costly industry agreements or conditions on site.
Master Builders Australia, the industry group pushing hardest to curtail the militancy of the CFMEU, said planned new legislation that would allow unhappy divisions such as the giant union's manufacturing and mining arms to demerge from the combative construction arm was only a first step.
Line of site: Large builders see little change coming from the federal government's proposed anti-CFMEU bill.
