Businesses to get £3,000 for every apprentice they take on Ministers hope increased bonus will entice businesses to recruit more young people for in-work training, boosting recovery 1 June 2021 • 6:00am Rishi Sunak said the plan was needed because 'young people have been hit especially hard' by the Covid crisis Credit: Peter Summers/Getty Images Europe Rishi Sunak will give businesses £3,000 for each apprentice they take on from Tuesday, as ministers try to lure young people away from university in an attempt to boost the UK's post-Covid recovery. Firms that have taken on any apprentices since April 1 will be able to claim back the incentive from the Treasury. Ministers hope the increased bonus will entice businesses to take on more young people for in-work training, helping the labour market recover from a year of redundancies and furlough.
