Rishi Sunak will give businesses £3,000 for each apprentice they take on from Tuesday, as ministers try to lure young people away from university in an attempt to boost the UK's post-Covid recovery.
Firms that have taken on any apprentices since April 1 will be able to claim back the incentive from the Treasury. Ministers hope the increased bonus will entice businesses to take on more young people for in-work training, helping the labour market recover from a year of redundancies and furlough.
