Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images Caleb Houstan is the crown jewel of Michigan men’s basketball’s 2021 recruiting class and a projected lottery pick before he even steps on campus. This week, he spoke to The Michigan Insider on a variety of topics, including what led him to choose Juwan Howard and the Wolverines. Style of play and the family atmosphere were seemingly the two biggest factors in his recruitment. I think just the style of play, for one, the style of play and the fit. Way back when I was going through the recruiting process and all that, I think Michigan was definitely a place where I could see myself fitting into the system in terms of style of play, the players that they have and the coaches, how they kind of run things and run their offense. As well as Coach Howard and the whole staff, being confident in them and that they’ll prepare me for the next level and coach me every day to get better in all aspects of the game. I think one of the big things was that I had a really good relationship with the whole staff. It was like a family. They used that word a lot and that was really important to me because I’m big on feeling comfortable in certain situations. Obviously, college is a new situation and I think Michigan—I knew I was going to be comfortable going there. It’s like a family and it was just a feel-good situation.
