'If the Canadian Government is serious about encouraging sustainability initiatives in the private sector, it should move quickly to clarify whether and how such collaborations will be dealt with under Canada’s Competition Act.'

In order for the private sector to act together to improve sustainability and reduce climate change impacts, governments need to make sure the law allows for it. The broad reach of Canada’s competition laws can stop cooperation dead in its tracks. Canada has taken some steps to fix the problem, but troublesome gaps remain. And other countries are addressing the issue, leaving Canada behind.
