The Repository CANTON – The Canton City School District is investigating an accusation that one of its fourth-grade teachers made a racist remark. The teacher, whom The Canton Repository is not identifying until more information is known, is accused of telling his class, including his Hispanic students, that Mexicans should, “go back to your country, why are you here?” Joanna Jacobo-Escobar, speaking on behalf of one of the Hispanic fourth-graders who was in the classroom, told Canton City school board members about the comment during the board’s public meeting Monday night. She said the students in the class confronted the teacher about the racist remark, but the teacher refused to apologize.
