Image: Moneyweb The impact of a proposed average increase of 14.59% in the tariffs municipalities charge business and industries for electricity âon top of existing irrational and inflated municipal tariffsâ will be devastating, according to some of the biggest business chambers in the country. The Association of South African Chambers (ASAC) â which includes the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and its counterparts in Cape Town, Durban, Nelson Mandela Bay, Pietermaritzburg and the Border-Kei area of the Eastern Cape â says in a submission about the municipal guideline Nersa recently published for comment, that the implementation of the guideline will âeffectively be a further step towards the destruction of the already ailing South African industryâ.
