Representative image CHENNAI: Public health officials on Monday warned that Chennai, the worst affected district, could run out of oxygen beds as Tamil Nadu reported 6,711 new cases and 19 deaths. The state had 46,308 active cases after 2,339 people were discharged. For the second consecutive day, Chennai reported more than 2,000 cases. The hotspot city had 2,105 new cases and 17,098 active cases -- 36% of those cases under treatment in the state. While senior officials met at the secretariat with plans to ramp up testing, aggressively enforce pandemic protocols, keep a check on stock of life saving drugs, and initiate early treatment, hospital administrators were keeping a tab on the number of beds and redirecting patients with mild or no symptoms either to home quarantine or to covid care centres.
