47abc April 27, 2021 CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – For the second year in a row the Chincoteague Pony Swim is going virtual. Denise Bowden with the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company says the pony auction will be online, but the carnival and swim are cancelled. “We’re feeling the crunches of it as well. It’s just, we’ve got to stay resilient and try to do what we need to do,” said Bowden. Bowden says with the COVID-19 restrictions in place, it just wasn’t possible to ensure everyone’s safety at such a large event. But, Bowden adds she hopes people will still come out and support local businesses. “It’s definitely going to impact us. Thank goodness, though, the businesses here are resilient. The people are still coming here. Visitation has been up and everything. I’m anticipating that through the summer,” said Bowden.
