The Hutchinson City Council learned Tuesday about plans for a study on whether to upgrade or replace the aging Salt City Splash Aquatic Center. The council also received an update and voted to proceed with the development of city pickleball courts in Rice Park. Parks director Justin Combs said he has “a few RFPs (request for proposals) on my desk” seeking a study of the city pool. Plans are to hire a consultant in spring and have them visit the pool over the summer to develop recommendations, he said. “They’ll look at the environment and understand how the pool is used now, to say whether to focus on a new center or renovate,” he said. “We don’t have that now. That’s the purpose of bringing in a consultant.”
