Closures in effect with blaze near Medicine Mountain in Wyoming expected to grow By Brendan LaChance on July 19, 2021 (Bighorn National Forest, InciWeb) CASPER, Wyo. — Firefighting crews are responding to a blaze that was initially discovered in the Bighorn National Forest on Crater Ridge north of Medicine Mountain on Saturday. The roughly 200-acre fire is presumed to have been caused by lightning and is burning in “heavy timber in rough, rugged terrain,” according to Bighorn National Forest updates posted to InciWeb. The Type 2 Rocky Mountain Incident Management Blue Team assumed command of the fire at 6 a.m. Monday. Fuels in the area are “extremely dry and receptive to fire” and crews are “employing a full-suppression strategy.”
