Hello, welcome to all of our viewers from watching around the world. Infiltrators, Firing Thousands of rockets from gaza. We will go live as they respond to what they are calling a storm. Another Deadly Strike on ukraine just a day after devastating attack on a village killed dozens and calls for sanctions over allegations of Ethnic Cleansing as armenia gets ready to take its demand for an Emergency Order. A State Of War Alert following the unprecedented Rocket Attacks from gaza. Starting at about 6 30 a. M. Local time when most israelis were asleep militants fired wave after wave of rockets perhaps thousands of them. Israeli Officials Say there are multiple injuries, some of them serious. The military is warning a number of militants infiltrated the territory from gaza and issued a statement. Civilians in the south expern central areas are required to stay next to shelters in the area surrounding the Gaza Strip Inside shelters. It goes on to hamas Terrorist Nation is the sovereign and is responsible for this attack. Now, we are live from jerusalem. Tell us what is happening right now. I am standing in the stair well outside of where cnn studios are in our building. There are Air Raid Sirens going off. This is the third one since this morning we have been Hearing Explosions over head that could be interceptions or impacts from rockets. I have not seen anything like this. 972021 when there were sirens and rockets fired towards jerusalem it was one or two time thing. We now have had several minutes of continuous sirens going off in jerusalem. That is why we had to leave the studio which is right by a window and come into the safety of a stair well where we have a protective space in case of rockets landing near us. This is going on all morning. Unprecedented and this is war. That is what being made very clear by the Israeli Military who say they are in State Of War Alert and they are calling up now reserves, that is what the Defense Minister called for. We dont have an exact number of the number of rockets fired from gaza into israel, hamas, the military group that controls them says it has been 5,000. We dont have a number yet. What is new and unprecedented by this situation today not only the intensity but the fact there have been infiltration of militants into israeli settlements in the south. Reports that it is confirmed by the military. Just heard an explosion over head. We heard of militants in the back of trucks shooting and firing . What we know so far a woman in her 60s has been killed there may be more. We know of several other injuries including several that are severely injured. In terms of the military response i think we should expect a big one. The reserves are being called up. The Israeli Military are mobilizing and should expect a massive response. This is, i mean, honestly it took the israelis off guard. I dont think they were expecting this. No clear trigger like in previous conflicts that maybe got people understanding that something would be happening. This came as a bit of a surprise at 6 30 this morning. It seems it was clearly coordinated. Now, as you noted the hamas group called this the al agsa storm. They fired 500 rockets. What is interesting is what is happening recently known as temple mount, a place holy for jews and muslims. Police raids, police big arrests or any major clashes at the compound it has been the visits of hundreds of jews to the compound over the past week that is also a jewish holiday. Nonmuslims can visit. There are so many sensitivities about what happens there, what they are allowed to do if they pray or dont pray. They are connecting it directly to what is happening in the west bank for the past year and a half. Increased level of clashes of Israeli Military into palestinian towns targeting militants, increased number of palestinian attacks on israelis. This is something that we have not seen before. The intensity of this, the infiltrations, we are continuing to hear reports that they might still be militants in the towns near the border. All Israeli Residents are advised to they close to shelters, do not go out, do not take to the streets, do not go to the beach. This is a state of war that i dont think they have seen in years in not decades it will be difficult questions to answer by the israeli intelligence. As you noted i mean, they seemed really to have been caught by surprise by this very orchestrated operation. Reporter yes, a major question, sort of, how did it happen . In previous rounds where we have seen rockets fired from israeli, i dont want to say people were expecting it but there was a clear trigger. There was a Major Military incursion or raid into the west bank that captured or killed high ranking militant. But this was i dont want to say a normal level of tension. For the last few weeks rising levels of tension, there has been some concern over what is happening in jerusalem there were protests along the Separation Fence between gaza and israel. Nothing that raised to the level of what we have seen in the past that is why it is surprising. I do think that we need to keep in mind not just what is happening specifically here with israel and Palestinian Territories but what is happening brooder on the regional level. Normalizations talks so i have to wonder if this is somewhat connected to those talks that are increasing and talking about what the palestinians can potentially get in exchange for normalizations with saudi arabia perhaps it is some sort of message sent to the broader area. They declare aid State Of War Alert. This is a major, major escalation. The type that we have not seen in many, many years, many, many rockets are fired. Including here in jerusalem that is why we are in the stair well right now. It is new, the infiltration. We dont know how many there have been and if it will expand to other parts of israel as well. Can you talk to us a little bit about the timing of this . Is there a significance . Reporter well, Today T Is Saturday t is a holy day for the jews. It is is another holiday. So, it is a significant day in terms of it being a holiday, the whole week. They tend to bring an extra level of tension. That because you will have jew that want to go there and nonmuslims there, jews, jewish extremist that say concern and i think it is significant that it is happening on the anniversary or close to the anniversary of yom war. Another time they were caught off guard. You have to wound fer there is a connection to it happening on a holiday o a saturday, and so close to this anniversary of the war. We expect israels response to be huge to this . They are calling out reserves now. The State Of War Alert. Calling up reserves. I think we should expect a massive response towards hamas. Gaza, to the likes withy have not seen in a decade if not more. All right. I will let you catch your breath and get to safety. I will check in with you in a little bit. For now, thank you very much for your reporting. All right, we will turn our attention now to ukraine. A city in one village are reeling from russian strikes that left scores of people dead and wounded. The city is where two people are dead after russian missiles slammed into Apartment Buildings on friday. The victims include a 10year old boy and his grandmother. While at least 30 other people were wounded. Southeast of kharkiv funerals have begun. It lost 1 6 of the prewar occupation in a single strike. 52 people were killed on thursday. It prompted the u. N. To send its Human Rights Investigators to the sites of the attack while u. N. Human rights coordinators say the strike amounted to a war crime. Lets get you more on this. We go live now from rome. What more have you learned about the russian strike in the Kharkiv Region . Reporter these are devastating numbers. These are numbers of injuries and casualties we have not seen since the beginning ever the war, almost 1 1 2 years ago. They are worried because there is so much hes trying to understand the dynamics of this attack. Lets hear what the u. N. Commissioner had to say on her visit. At this stage it is difficult to establish with Salute Certainty what happened. But, given the location, given the fact that the cafe was struck. The indications are that it was a russian missile. We said previously it needs to be looked at further. The salute clear thing there was a horrible loss of life and that is to be deployed in all circumstances. You know, you are talking about war crimes in a war that has, you know, filled with these sorts of atrocities and crimes. Like i was saying the support is waning, about continuing support here. Italy, across europe and especially in the United States. That is wearing on the military in ukraine. All right, thank you very much. For more on this i am joined by john denny. A Research Professor at the u. S. Army war college. Warm welcome, thank you for joining us. I want to start our conversation about asking you about the terrible attack on hroza. And the one in kharkiv. Just seeing the horrifying consequences of assaults like that galvanize support for ukraine. Does it make any difference . I will begin these comments are mine and do not reflect those of the United States government. I think it makes a difference. As a father myself when i read about it and children as young as six years old dieing in tragedies like this. It reminds us of frankly the moral depravity of the leadership, it can not be trusted. The military lacks moral compass and needs to be held accountable for war crimes. A history of doing is targeting civilians and civil infrastructure. If it moves the needle on public opinion, i think it may be limited, frankly. Many of us have been, somewhat, used to it. Russian attacks on civilians. With that said it could move the needle with regard to Political Support for aid to ukraine. Lets talk about that and asking you about the future of the security assistance. What are you most concerned about right now . Reporter well, i think there are two things, i think in the short run of course, most concerned with getting ukrainians the amination that they need. Artillery shells and air defense weapons to sustain their counteroffensive over the next month or so before the weather begins to play a significant role. Beyond that i think we are concerned with what happens after the winter and into the spring. If the russians decide to launch a counteroffensive at that time the ukrainians are going to need injections of equipment and more. In the u. S. We have the ability sustain it for the next month or so given the current funding and what the administration has told us. Beyond that there are serious questions, we know many of our allies have reached the bottom of the barrel. At least in the short run regarding their own stockpiles, over time that could change, though. That could change. Lets talk about that. How reliable is u. S. Support if there is a change in administration or if you are, you know, one of the eu partners and european Policy Makers watching now the dynamics that are playing out in washington at this moment. What conclusions should they draw about the role america is still prepared to play . There is a story to be told. The europeans are supplying more assistance, committed to supply more assistance in terms of economics, financial, military, humantarian. And the gop senators and more divided. I think in the end we are seeing a renewal of assistance once we are passed the political storm that is from washington. And challenge for expeurp nato. The longer it lasts. Europeans supply a great number of military assistance, humanitarian assistance. The military aid, though, they are slowly bringing it on line more defense capacity. And contracts it will take time. We need to see it come on line. The europeans providing A Billion Euros to fund new ammunition as well as another billion to replenish the stocks of those allies that are donating. But, again, this is going to take months to unfold, not weeks. Do the ukrainians have that much time . I think for their counteroffensive they probably do not. However, we know that russians are under the same contracts regarding their equipment and manpower. Most analysts, at least in the u. S. , believe that the russians are not capable of launching any kind of large scale offensive any time soon. Thank you very much for joining us. My pleasure, thank you. Growing number of migrants, how the influx is effecting local services and how residents are stepping up to help. Lets get back to our Breaking News. Israeli military declared a state of war. Militants are claiming to have fired some 5,000 rockets targeting airports and military positions. Israeli Officials Say at least one person has died. Several people have been wounded. Israels military says it is mobilizing soldiers claiming that a number of militants from gaza entered israeli territory. In israel, seven people were reportedly killed on friday in a wave of strikes. That is according to a Volunteer Group known as the white helmets, blaming the Syrian Government. The strikes happened a day after a drone attack killed 89 people at a Syrian Military college. Cnn reports. Reporter friday, the death toll from a drone strike on the Graduation Ceremony reached almost 90 according to the official Syrian News Agency including 31 woman and five children. The Agency Claimed nearly 300 others were injured. The u. K. Based syrian observetory for human rights said the death toll exceeded 1 120. No one claimed responsibility for the attack. The Syrian Government blamed foreignbacked terrorists that usually refers to armed opposition groups operating in the countrys northwest and that is where Regime Forces struck back. Many are still in shock and coping with the fact that they may not see their homes again. Some of them shared their stories. I want to warn you, what you are about to see may be disturbing. Reporter this is where the most desperate, are surviving. Entire families have come. Like them, they say their village was bombarded by guns, forcing them to flee. It was so painful to leave, especially for my children she tells me. We were farmers, we had everything. It was a massive war. We had no choice, she says. These people are the most vulnerable. They would Obtheir Street or in their car if they were not here. Reporter this Emergency Charity cofounder from boston has witnessed the physical and emotional impact of the evacuation firsthand. There are families here is aing i am waiting for the bus to take me back home. Reporter the road back is very long, at times it is winding as well. It is also very empty. As are the settlements across the border we managed to have a glimpse of it. All 120,000 people who once lived there have now evacuated those settlements and they come to armenia where may are living in hotels, Refugee Centers or with family. Reporter in border towns where authorities are distributing basic supplies to evacuees. Some spent a lifetime fighting for a homeland that is now lost. The government says that if you live in one of the villages they will protect your rights. Do you believe them . They will never protect us, they are lying, she insists. I will never forgive them for what they did to us, she adds. There are some with far more than emotional scars. We visited one hospital filled with victims of a makeshift Gas Station Blast in Nagorno Karabakh where people have been gathering fuel. You can hear screaming now. What is the screaming . The doctor describes the carnage you can hear the screams of agony from the wards. Okay. Can we go and see that now . In almost every room here there is a horrific story of pain and loss. 25yearold victor asked us to hide the burns on his face. It was like hell, he told me. Now i dont want anyone to see. His friend says he lost
