Captions by vitac www. Vitac. Com tonight straight from the source, the race to escape. An urgent Evacuation Order to the residents of gaza, which aid groups the have deemed impossible. As netanyahu is warning hamas the recent strikes im quoting him now are just the beginning. Plus, israel hitting hundreds of new targets in gaza and lebanon, as members of the idf are carrying out raids in gaza looking for hostages held by hamas. House republicans tonight went home without a speaker. The chaos on capitol hill has real consequences for whats happening in israel. Im kaitlan collins, and this is the source. Right now, Israeli Forces are moving closer to the gaza border, striking more targets tonight is speculation of a Ground Invasion is growing, following saturdays deadly attack by hamas. Anderson cooper will join us live with his reporting from tel aviv in just a moment. This all comes, as there is a race against time for what could be the next phase of this war. Israel has issued an urgent warning overnight to more than a million palestinians living in gaza, telling them to move south within 24 hours. About 1. 1 Million People in just 24 hours. The United Nations is calling that impossible, calling on israel to rescind that Evacuation Order. Heres the problem, most of these people have nowhere to go. Entire families have been sent scrambling, piling into cars or whatever mode of transportation they can find to get to safer ground. Many of them have been left to walk for miles. President biden directly addressed the massive humanitarian crisis that is unfolding today, and he emphasized that many palestinians have nothing to do with hamas. The president also made a promise to the families of the 14 americans who are still missing tonight, after a conversation that he said was Gut Wrenching. I say were going to do everything in our power to find them, everything in our power. And im not going to go into detail of that, but were working like hell on it. Anderson cooper is live in tel aviv tonight. Anderson, since we last spoke last night, israel issued the warning to gaza. It seems clear that the phase of this war that we are witnessing is about to shift and potentially very quickly. Yeah, i mean, this really does as you know, israel has amassed 300,000 plus reserve forces along the border. Artillery units are in place. There is no doubt whatever comes next is going to be violent and deadly and a lot of people are going to die. You know, hamas has told gazans not to leave gaza city. They do not want the civilian population move further south. We have seen today large numbers of people trying to move, traffic jams and the like. But it is a very difficult situation. There is not a lot of places for them to go in the south. Its not as if there are huge tent camps that have been set up. We dont have hamas helping people move to the south. And that southern border with egypt is closed to large numbers of gazans, who probably would like to cross into the safety of egypt. Thats a huge Security Concern for egypt. Large numbers of people can move when desperate enough. The question is, what do they move to . What happens to them when theyre there . And how long is this situation going to last . Theres fewer resources even in the south than there is in the north. Anderson, your reporting earlier and there was this moment where this happened in the background. I just want our viewers who missed it to see this moment. Generally they come from that direction. That sounded like iron dome interception. Can you just describe what happened, what you heard . Yeah, just something that hadnt happened much in tel aviv. Large scale sirens came on. Very shortly after you heard the launching probably of an intercepter. And then whether it was an actual rocket intercepting a rocket or not, im not sure. But there was a very large explosion, relatively close to this area. But thats just its a relatively rare thing over the last several days here in tel aviv. Obviously closer to the border, you have a lot more of that sort of thing, much more of a back and forth. But, yeah, it was certainly something which got a lot of peoples attention here in tel aviv for a few seconds today, kaitlan. Yeah, and i should note, were seeing some moments lighting up in red from israel, as were looking at the sky right now, obviously something that were monitoring very closely, anderson. What has it been like just being on the ground today . Whats the sense after being there now that were nearly a week after this attack . You know, look, theres a lot of resolve here on the ground on the israeli side. Theres certainly a lot of anticipation of what is to come. You know, people are saying goodbye to their Family Members, reservists are being called up all during this week. Some are still enroute. I think people are, kind of, waiting to see what is the next step. And certainly on the gazan side, there is tremendous struggle, as people are being buried here in israel. Theres tremendous struggle in gaza among civilians. And hamas it bears repeating, wants to use these people as much as possible as Human Shields To Prevent Israel from being able to go after hamas as effectively as they would like. It is a incredibly its going to be an awful situation. Theres going to be a lot of civilian casualties. And it doesnt seem, at this stage, that there is much way to prevent that, given the entrenched positions on all sides. Yeah, and i should note, what were seeing right now is gaza. These are the images that we are watching very closely. Obviously, speculation has only grown about a potential ground offensive and what that could look like. Anderson cooper, great reporting. Well check back in with you, as we monitor these developments tonight. Speaking, of course, of what is happening in gaza, which you were just looking at there, joining me tonight is hani al med huynh. He has dozens of Family Members in that Evacuation Zone in Northern Gaza. He is also the director of philanthropy at the United Nations. Im so glad youre here with me tonight because your mom, your dad, six of your siblings, so much of your family is in that tiny red box, that Evacuation Zone, in gaza. And i imagine they are pretty terrified tonight. Yes, absolutely, kaitlan. Its been a tough time. Of course i wear two hats, the humanitarian relief and family man who has family in gaza. And you know, my inlaws evacuated today. Promised safety. They got there and they regretted that decision because they went to a place where no facilities. Everybody was sleeping in the street. They regretted that. They said, hey, lets go back to our home, but they couldnt. There is a lot of trauma there for the palestinians. My mom is definitely In The Red Box there. We just saw it on the map. She is unable to leave. She already left one time from our other house up north. And she said, we cant leave. Right now shes hunkering and sleeping under a staircase in our familys home. And you know, today was the first time i was able to call her. And this really broke my spirit. She said, can you turn the video from it because i fear this is the last time i will see you. And i was surprised she would do that. Our family, our extended family, lost 16 people, 14 in one attack and two people later. Now, you know, its we have not had time to process that trauma in our life. And i just feel, you know, theres a lot of work to do. And i cant take a break because we want to support the palestine refugees, as youve heard about the reports of facilities. And we work here in the u. S. To support and manage americans to step up to support the work. And also there is the personal side, which makes it a lot more painful. But, you were on the phone with your mom today, and she said she wanted to turn the camera on because she feared it might be the last time you two would see each other . Yes. And that was really heartbreaking. I havent talked to her in five or six days because the internet is down. The electricity is out. Water is scarce. And i feel like theyre all abandoned. And im not seeing a parade in the u. S. And im sorry for israeli loss of life. Im seeing a parade there. Nobody acknowledges our loss of life. My family has nothing to do with anything, yet theyre punished as if they did a crime. Were talking about 25 people in a small apartment trying to Stay Together. Some of those families make decisions, should we split, should we Stay Together . Some families go to different locations so they can survive if somebody happens. And sadly, by family decided to stay put, to Stay Together. Some of these little detail we dont think about like the women now saw fear taking a shower because if a bomb would come, she would have to run naked in the street or if they died, they would be naked and people would have to. Your family, theyre scared to take a shower because theyre scared theyre showering a bomb will go off and strike them. My sister, they have water for two hours. She asked me if i could adopt her daughter in case anything happens to her. These stories get to you because you dont think im a parent too and i dont think about whats going to happen to my children should anything happen. There is a lot of mental trauma in addition to what people are seeing. There is no dignity even in death in gaza. People get buried and nothing. The best funeral is something on facebook, your picture, and rest in peace. There is no time for people to bury. The fridges in the hospitals are filled with bodies, many children. Im not going to quote numbers. The numbers change by the minute. And i hope that people see this. And you know, we dont were a lot of civilians in gaza. There is no facility for them to go anywhere. And right now im hoping the u. S. Administration will step up and just make sure that International Rights are guarantee. We did it for russia, for ukraine. I feel a little bit we have not gotten the courage to say what we already see in places, that collective punishment does not agree. We saw the idf. They dropped thousands of pamphlets over Northern Gaza earlier, urging people to evacuate. H hamas is saying the opposite, telling residents, telling gazans, that they need to stay where they are. What is your Family Planning to do . Weve seen this fampamphlet. Gaza is not a big place. Its essentially the size of washington, d. C. Its a fairly small place. So, the reality is the family didnt evacuate because they dont have a place to stay. Had we had relatives in those areas and by the way, 30 people were bombed today in the shelter zone or safe zone. So, there is no guarantees. Was relocated from the Central Command in the central city to rafah. And there was reports of bombing at the new sight. Really theres a lot of things that are happening that are not correct. Obviously you want to make sure weve lost 13 staff members. These people work for the u. N. I work in the u. S. To support the work. And a lot of people are suffering, including my family and many families here. You know, lets talk about americans cluck in gaza. Theres about 60 or more americans stuck in gaza. They dont feel safe to go anywhere. Im not feeling there is compassion to get them out. Im hoping they will be out soon. I could give you names, stories of americans bombed inside the Rafah Crossing and lrunning for their lives with their babies. I know those stories are real for me, and i know my fellow american palestinians, were not just gazans. Were palestinians in gaza. I want to establish that. Were not just some, you know i mean, i cant even imagine the pain of a conversation like that with your mother. And we are obviously thinking of all of your family. And im grateful to you for joining me tonight. Please stay in touch and keep us updated. Appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. Tonight, cnn has new reporting on u. S. Intelligence, what it showed ahead about hamas planning of that deadly attack on israel. There are two intelligence assessments that showed there was an increased risk of violence. The questions about who knew what and when. We have the details. Also with Congress Still shut down, with no House Speaker tonight, republicans have picked a new candidate, but they have the same problem. Theres not enough votes for that candidate. Republican president ial candidate and former Vice President mike pence, a house member, will join us here shortly. Tonight, the House Of Representatives is in turmoil, with No End In Sight and no speaker. That sounds familiar. Its a pattern that we have seen play out time and time again for the last ten days now. Republicans did pick a new nominee for the job today. Thats congressman jim jordan of ohio. But they still have the same math problem that we told you about two nights ago. More than 50 republicans voted against supporting jordan on the house floor, so the ohio congressman does not have the votes to get the gavel. The frustration in the Republican Party is very clear tonight. I dont like the way this whole thing has played out. The problem has been consistently that weve allowed emotion to get in the way of logic and in the way of the necessity to actually govern. If we cant get to 217 cnns Melanie Zanona has been reporting all this on capitol hill. Melanie, emotion in the way of logic, as one congressman put it there. The fact that republicans went home today with no House Speaker clearly thinks they dont think jim jordan is close to getting the votes any time soon. House republicans are in a crisis right now. Jim jordan is going to spend the weekend trying to win over those holdouts, trying to work the phones, seeing if he can get there. Theres also hope the base is going to get fired up and start Urging Members to get behind jim jordan. Kaitlan, it is clear that at this point jim jordan is going to have a math problem just like Steve Scalise did and just like kevin mccarthy. 55 republicans said they would not back mccarthy on the floor, and he can only afford to lose four of them. I caught up with one of those holdouts. Heres what he had to say. It takes five to take him down, and youve got 55. Yeah. I mean, you do the math. Steve had 17 nos, somewhere in that range. 55 nos is very difficult. Its not jim, then i think the door opens, but its much more likely that we get somebody quickly next week. Jordan is going to try to take the floor on tuesday. If whe cant get there, we could see other dark horse candidates emerge. Theres no consensus, no speaker, and no ability to govern, all while Critical Issues hang in the balance. A lot of them. Melanie zanona, thank you. My next guest is running to be the republican president ial nominee. Former Vice President mike pence is here. Mr. Vice president , when you look at what is going on on capitol hill, how does this reflect on the Republican Partys ability to govern and aid a u. S. Ally, when they cant even elect a House Speaker . Kaitlan, as you know before i was Vice President , before i wa the congress of the United States. And i still find It Incomprehensible that eight republicans partnered with every democrat in congress to oust a republican Speaker Of The House. I mean, everything goes back to the chaos caucus of eight. But the fact that the conference voted in the majority for Steve Scalise, but he was not able to marshal the sufficient 217, to me is also i really do believe its not the way the republican conference is supposed to work. Theyre supposed to be able to meet as a team. The majority votes, and then you go to the floor. My hope is that early next week, when the congress reconvenes, that members of congress will have had the opportunity to speak to jim jordan, to talk about their issues, their concerns, and that theyll go united to the floor of the House Of Representatives and vote to elect a Speaker Of The House. Jim jordan would be an outstanding Speaker Of The House. Hes a princeal pled conservative, just as Steve Scalise is. And at a time when we see war raging in eastern europe, the worst attack on the Jewish State Of Israel since its refounding in 1948, challenges here at home in our economy, a crisis at our border, the American People want to see the republican conference come together, Elect A Speaker, and get back to work. Its interesting otome to hear you say that, that jim jordan would be a great speaker, given he was someone who sent a text to the Chief Of Staff on january 5th that outlined for you to violate the constitution and block the certification of the election. I mean, do you really believe thats someone who should be third in line to the presidency . I have immense respect for jim jordan. Hes a man of integrity. Ive known him for many years. I was not aware of his opinion going into january 6th. So, that doesnt bother you . My interaction with Congressman Jordan In December was simply over the legitimate objections that members of congress wermitted to file under the law. We may have a differen
