Blamed the Israeli Military for explosion. But after investigating the matter, israel said they have evidence that the cause of the blast was a failed rocket blast from Islamic Jihad. Israeli Officials Say the damage does not suggest an israeli missile. A spokesman for the Israeli Defense forces told me that the failed rocket from the Islamic Jihad was caught live on al jazeera. They were broad casting it live, and i have an image here of the launch of the broad cast. I screen captured what they did. You can see this is just 6 59, you see the al jazeera emblem. Thats the rocket that fell into the hospital. Israelis released audio of individuals who they claim are members of hamas discussing the inc incident, acknowledging that it was Islamic Jihad and the failed rocket fell near the hospital. The u. S. National Security Council reaffirmed that initial intelligence does not suggest that israel was behind the blast as they issued this updated statement this evening, saying the u. S. Government assesses that israel was not responsible for an explosion that Killed Hundreds of civilians yesterday at the hospital in the gaza strip. This is based on available reporting, including intelligence and including Missile Activity and images of the incident. Intelligence indicates that some Palestinian Militants in the gaza strip believed it was likely caused bien errant Missile Launch carried out by pij. The militants were still investigating what happened. But palestinian officials in d gaza maintain it was israel. Regardless of what the facts are, the claims of the palestinians in gaza, those claims are being believed by arab leaders and believed on streets throughout the arab world. Jordanian and palestinian leaders, therefore, canceled their planned meetings with joe biden. And because of those claims, false it appears, there are protests igniting on the streets in beirut and throughout the capitals after other arab countries. Frustrations no doubt also because of israels bombardment of gaza. And also because frankly because of israels very existence and also because of joe bidens reaffirmation of support for the jewish state. Another priority for the u. S. Expressed today by joe biden in israel is securing safe passage along the Southern Gaza border with egypt for food and water and medical supplies and fuels to get into gaza, because of the dire humanitarian crisis in gaza. And for civilians, including hundreds of u. S. Citizens, Palestinian Americans and others trying to get out of gaza. Lets get right to erich erin b who is live in tel aviv. What is the latest from officials we are hearing about that blast in gaza . Reporter well, jake, as you laid out so many of the points, they put out their satellite maps. They put a map out here of Rocket Trajectories to show they know where a rocket came from. They have put out all their aerial images to show a israeli missile would put out a crater and there is no crater here. So they have done all of that. But to your point, arab leaders believing them, the Jordanian Foreign minister today said to cnn that the israeli army is saying its not responsible, but to be honest, try to find anybody who will believe it in this part of the world. Thats the challenge. A former u. S. Intelligence official was telling me that, look, you could present this evidence to ding abdullah of jordan. He could see it and realize it to be true, but he is not going to convince people in jordan that this is true and israel didnt do it. So thats the reality. Its circular snt going to be situation where people say israel wasnt responsible. Erin, tell me about this interview you did. You spoke with somebody who survived hamas Terrorist Attacks. Tell us about that. Reporter so, jake, you have spoken to people, you know, who have gone through this incredible trauma. I spoke to a young man, 23. He has lymphoma. Hes been trying to beat it for ten months. Because he has cancer, he went to the festival late. He was just going to drive and spend a few hours there. He spent time in the Israeli Defense forces himself. Hears the rockets, sees the shooting. Gets out of his car and runs into a shelter. Hes in this room with five other people, and they throw in grenade after aggrenade. Eight grenades, jake. He survived by putting a dead body on himself. When they come back in, he sees the guns, they shot that dead body again and again and again. He was underneath it and was shot in the stomach. But he had in all of this, when the terrorists first came in, Hamas Terrorists into this room, he describes the weapons, and he looks the terrorist in the eye and here is what he said. They come to the shelter when we look at them, they look at me, and what they see is you looked them in the eye. In the eye. What did you see . What i see . Nothing, no in the eyes . Uhhuh. I dont look. Its crazy on drugs. They looked like they were on drugs . Yes, of course. Reporter jake, he described the atrocities he saw when he ran for help, horrific atrocities. But ill say this, this is the reality that this was so intense and personal. The crimes, the carnage, the stabbing. And that there were people who would look eye to eye with the person willing to execute them. That is worth remembering every day what started it. It was that. Back to you. Erin burnett, thank you so much. Now i want to go to cnns m. J. Lee who is at the white house for us. Joe biden spoke with reporters on Air Force One about many subjects, including humanitarian aid that is just waiting in egypt, trying to get into dgaza. What did the president have to say . Reporter he just told reporters on Air Force One that he reached an agreement with egypts president , president sisi, that the agreement is to open the rafah crossing, to get this humanitarian aid into gaza. The agreement, he said, was to allow 20 trucks through for the time being. And then in terms of the timeline, how quickly this would happen, the president saying the roads need to get fixed. Potholes need to get fixed before trucks can get through. So he estimated that those 20 trucks could start rolling into gaza around friday. He also said that the purpose was only to get the humanitarian aid through, that it would not be to allow a lot of people out. So clearly this was a key Sticking Point in his discussions with the president of egypt. He called this a very blunt negotiation that he had with his counterpart in egypt. He said that they spoke for over an hour while Air Force One was on the ground for a refueling stop. Obviously, the president is on his way back to washington. So jake, we were just talking about how the president didnt get an opportunity to meet face to face with some of these arab leaders. The white house said when the jordan piece of the trip was canceled, that he did plan on speaking on the phone with some of the leaders, and this we are seeing playing out in realtime. He had this phone call. He said it was over an hour, and now this is sort of the result of that conversation. I should also quickly note, jake, that over the last few minutes, the white house has announced that tomorrow the president is going to deliver a primetime address from the oval office to address both the situation in israel and the war in ukraine. Just another vivid reminder of how much events overseas have overtaken the president s priorities and schedule. All right. Thank you so much. The Hospital Blast from gaza ignited angry protests across the middle east. Lebanon propalestinian demonstrators skirmished with police north of beirut. Police used Water Cannons against the demonstrators. In amman, jordan, a large demonstration took place. Its after midnight there. Have things calmed down . Reporter jake, we left just a short tileme ago. There was still hundreds of people there, carrying on with that protest, as we saw last night. Theres protests carried on to the early hours of this morning. This is a huge show of solidarity, but of course, a huge show of protests against israeli air strikes on the besieged gaza strip. We have been speaking to protestors throughout the day. Many told us they felt it was their duty to come out and show their solidarity, to show their opposition as these air strikes continue to intensify. Take a listen. The best thing we can all do is to stand here and be the voice of the people. Its pretty emotional. The whole thing has been running for nearly a lot of years, maybe a hundred years its been going on. I think its about time that, you know, people know the truth of what is going on. Reporter of course, jake, these protests arent new. We have been seeing protests take here in amman and jordan from the outset of this war on a daily basis. Protests across the middle east as you mentioned, and this is a cause that has deeply resonated with the arab world. Many expressed outrage and concern over the mounting civilian death toll in gaza. Of course, a lot of the focus has been on the situation at the hospital inside gaza. Hundreds killed, and as erin mentioned, israel has denied responsibility. Hamas and the Palestinian Authority has placed the blame, as well as the jordanian government, on israel. We speak to the people here on the ground and across the middle east, they feel this is another example of an escalation of violence by israel on civilians inside the gaza strip. All right. Thanks so much. Now back to israel with cnns Nic Robertson in the area just outside that has become an Israeli Military staging ground ahead of an expected Ground Incursion into gaza. Nic, a few hours ago you saw roberts from gaza and heard what sounded like israeli artillery fire. Have things quieted down at all . Reporter yeah, it has, jake. Some of that artillery, interestingly, was landing close to the border. It wasnt far away. So i think the thing were listening for tonight is early indication of a Ground Incursion, heavy movement of traffic, machine gunfire, the heavy bombing or artillery strike in the immediate leadup to it. Right now, its quiet. And is the sense of impending action as strong as it was earlier this week . Does an israeli incursion still seem likely . Do you sense that the u. S. Constant sending of major cabinet officials over the president is the only thing thats holding back the incursion, or is there Something Else going on . Reporter yeah, look, i think one of the big moves from countries in the region, arab nations, has been to call for a humanitarian pause, which would really stop military incursion, and everyone that is opposed to the war would want that to be extended. That hasnt happened. The u. N. Security council and the United States ambassador there vetoed it. So i think the perception here is still on the ground and the support that President Biden has given, israel is still ready for a Ground Incursion. Were told to expect a long war, but i think the anticipation is that the next phase of it will be some sort of Ground Incursion. Again, no decision on it yet, that we are aware of. Nick robertson in israel for us. Thank you so much. Cnn has obtained chilling new documents detailing the plans that hamas planned to go through with, and hundreds of families are still waiting to hear about their loved ones being held hostage. Are they satisfied with the response of the Israeli Government . Well talk with one of those families next. Hundreds of families, suffering families, are still waiting to hear something, frankly anything, about the whereabouts of their loved ones kidnapped by hamas. That includes this family. They say he was kidnapped after visiting his girlfriend. Hes just 17 years, a kid. Joining us now to talk about ofir is his aunt. Its a horrible question to even ask, but how are you and the Family Holding up . Umm, we try, we try to be together all the time. We dont leave my brothers house. At all times, we pray together, think about ofir and think about what hes going through, if hes cold at night, if someone can hug him. We really, really dont know what to think. We just hope that he will come to us quickly. Thats what i can say. Really unbelievable what we are going through with other hundreds of families that didnt do anything, anything. You know, he just went to be with his girlfriend. 6 00 in the morning, they started to hear gunshots and bombs. And the terrorists went inside their house, just dragged them from the safe room, and put them in the car and took them. Like things. I dont know what to say. Yeah. Look at his green eyes and we really just hope to bring him back. Hes just a boy, just a boy. Hes just a boy. Hes a basketball player. He loves life. He laughs all the time. Hes so sensitive. We are really so worried. When i heard can i Say Something . When i heard what he had to say about the people, it gave us hope. It gave us a feeling that the leader of the free world standing next to us helped us. We just hope that he really does everything to, to, to bring ofir home. I dont know if you know, but our fear is we are a dutch family, and we can choose where to live, but as President Biden told us, we have only one country, and this is our country. And we will stay here. We hope that we will stay here in peace. We really hope so. If you could talk to those who took ofir, what would you say to them . Its a very, very hard question, because the obvious thing is bring him home. I dont think we can talk to them. I dont think that just for him to know that we are doing everything, everything we can day and night to bring him home. We love him so much. We hope that treat him as a human being. We hope they let him be with other people. We hope they dont do anything bad to him. To him and to all the 200 and something people, children, old people, that they took without their oxygen, without their medicine, they took children without the parents. I dont have words in english or in hebrew on in any other Human Language to describe what we are going through. And i dont think i have anything to say to them, but bring him home so we can hug him again. Let us be safe. He reminds me of my son. He looks like my son. Thanks for talking with us.
