Cold temperatures prompt communities to open warming centers


(WJPF) — Dangerously cold temperatures are forecasted for the next few days across southern Illinois.
In response, many communities are opening up or increasing maximum capacity at warming centers. Click on the town names below for more information. Masks are required and social distancing guidelines are in place. 
 
CARBONDALE — 608 East College Street. Open 24/7.
DU QUOIN — City Hall (302 East Poplar Street). Open 11:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. For additional help, call the Du Quoin Police Department at (618) 542-2131 or come in person to the police department lobby. 
HARRISBURG — Fire Department (100 South Main Street). 
HERRIN — City Hall (300 North Park Avenue). 
MARION — 211 East Boulevard Street. Open daily from 6:00 p.m.  7:00 a.m. until further notice. Guests must arrive prior to 9:00 p.m. and any guest leaving after 10:00 p.m. will not be readmitted.
