Concerns of skills shortfall dominates UK low carbon heat debate

Recent UK commitments to introduce stricter carbon reduction targets for 2038 will exacerbate skills pressures within the building engineering sector to support cleaner heat
A webinar from industry body BESA has heard how the availability of heat pumps and boilers that can be easily converted to run on hydrogen will needs to be backed by effective policy and consumer acceptance and awareness of different ways to heat homes.
Helen Yeulet, director of training and skills with the association, said a wide range of studies - such as an ONS survey conducted between 2015 and 2018 - have shown that efforts to recruit and upskill the HVAC supply chain to deliver low carbon heat was still insufficient.
