(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Afe Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, has stated that amending the 1999 constitution, as proposed, is a waste of time. Babalola disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday as he expressed doubts that amending the constitution will not be enough to fully address the nation’s problems. The senior advocate of Nigeria stated that the only constitution that could be worked on to make a difference is the 1963 constitution. He stated that the major cause of the nation’s current problems is the 1999 constitution foisted on Nigeria by the military. In the alternative, Babalola called for the convocation of a national conference to accommodate all opinions on how to move the country forward.
