Contractor sought to finance and build £562m Welsh hospital

A search has begun to find a contractor to finance, design and build a new cancer hospital in Cardiff.
Velindre University NHS Trust also expects the appointed firm to carry out hard facilities maintenance once the hospital is operational in 2025. The whole contract of £562m is set to run for 28 years with the construction contract expected to be worth around £200m.
The project will be one of the first to be delivered using the Welsh Government’s new Mutual Investment Model (MIM) for public-private partnerships. The government used the model for the A465 dualling and is also looking to deliver two new schools with the approach. The MIM has similarities to PFI, with private suppliers paid a fee for financing, building and maintaining assets, which are then transferred to public ownership at the end of the contract.
