Detectives have condemned Ian Bryan for his attack on Joshua Catterall, then 17, who required emergency surgery. Bryan had an upstairs flat above digs being shared by Catterall and fellow Boltonian Liam Roberts, then 32, at a property in St Leonards in Sussex. The Bolton pair had been doing contracting work in the area when they were involved in a dispute with Bryan. One night in April, Bryan came down and started banging on their door, prosecutors said. When Mr Catterall opened the door Bryan slashed him across the throat, Brighton Crown Court was told. Blood spattered everywhere as the attacker then advanced on Mr Roberts.
