How bad is the coronavirus response at the Kansas Department of Labor? 17th District Senator Jeff Longbine calls it "a catastrophe." Longbine starts his 11th year in the Legislature when the 2021 session begins Monday, and he says nothing has frustrated him quite like the Labor Department issues the past nine months. PLG_CONTENT_HTML5AUDIO_NOT_SUPPORTED On KVOE's 8:05 am newscast Friday, Longbine said lawmakers have done what they can, but the issues are the executive branch's responsibility to solve and the response is a black eye on the Kelly administration. Longbine believes the budget will be one of the core tasks ahead, and he thinks the current-year budget looks better than it did last year. He also believes he will be busy with his committee assignments, including chairing the Financial Institutions and Insurance committees and his presence on the Federal and State Affairs Committee.
