Nursing home residents and employees in Erie County will begin receiving Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine on Monday.
Residents and staff at LECOM Senior Living Center, 5535 Peach St., will be vaccinated by represenatives of Walgreens, LECOM Health officials said in an news release. The chain pharmacy is working with LECOM Health through the federal government's Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program.
Other long-term care facilities across the state will be vaccinating residents that day, said Rachel Levine, M.D., Pennsylvania Secretary of Health.
"The vaccine is a nice holiday gift," James Lin, D.O., president of the LECOM Institute for Successful Aging LECOM, said earlier this week. "The last eight weeks have been difficult for the local long-term care facilities."
