The number of Delawareans who have died from COVID-19 surpassed the 1,000 mark last week as hospitalizations held steady. In its weekly report issued Jan. 15, the Delaware Division of Public Health said a total of 1,002 Delawareans have passed away due to complications from COVID-19. The state reported 45 additional deaths since its previous update. Individuals who have died from COVID-19 range in age from younger than 5 to 104 years old; 511 were female and 491 were male. A total of 499 were from New Castle County, 186 were from Kent County, and 317 were from Sussex County. In addition, 451 people were currently hospitalized, the same number as the previous week. Fifty-six of the hospitalized persons are critically ill, down three from the previous week.
