05/26/2021 In the desert, water can create an oasis in our backyards. Just the sound of trickling water can help us relax, while also attracting birds and other wildlife. There are many ways you can add this essential element to your yard, including birdbaths, fountains, and ponds. Birdbaths The simplest way to add water to your yard is with a birdbath. Water is essential for our desert birds, and if you want to attract them to your yard, all you have to do is provide it. Trickling or spraying water helps them find it, and a gentle spray allows hummingbirds to zip through for a sip or a wash. A shallow birdbath on the ground with some added rocks helps bees or baby quail drink safely, and a larger basin on a stand attracts everything from doves to migratory birds.
