WORCESTER — Plans for a skateboard park at Crompton Park have been approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission and are ready to move forward. The Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved the master plan for the skate park in December. In a communication to the City Council ahead of Tuesday's meeting, City Manager Edward M. Augustus noted there is $2 million in capital funds for the project in the Fiscal 2021 budget. "The Master Plan has been designed to meet the needs, wants, and desires of the neighbors, city residents, and skatepark community," Augustus said in the communication. The parks commission's approval paves the way for final design and for construction to begin in earnest. Officials from Weston & Sampson, the engineering and design firm that worked with the city on the master planning process, told the parks commission last month the project will go out to bid over the winter, and construction should start this summer. The anticipated opening of the skate park, at the corner of Endicott and South Quinsigamond Avenue, is spring 2022.
