Ronald reagan said that personnel is policy. The type of people that we hire for the type of policies that were going to have. And if thats the case, then that means that elections are about personnel. And elections matter. And if elections matter, well, then that means that our party matter. Your being involved in what we do makes a difference, makes a difference of the things that you care about that actually get you involve. As a result of your efforts for the last, you know, year, year and a half especially as we close this last election season, weve had another year of incredible successes, 2018 election cycle. Office very statewide in republican hands again. Again, give yourselves a round of applause. We maintained our state House Majority again. We picked up more local and county offices all around the state again in 2018. And not only that, but we more than doubled more than doubled the number of people who voted absentee republican statewide in the last cycle. And the statistic im most proud of or blown away by, i guess you could say is the result on the straight ticket ballot. This is only the second election that republicans beat democrats on straight ticket voting. The first time was in 2016. We beat them by three points statewide. And in this last election we beat them by eight points all across South Carolina, up and down the ballot. Benefits every candidate on our ballot and that goes back to the work that yall helped us do. Thank you. But you know, its easy for us to get comfortable sometimes with successes we mentioned it so many times. We can get too used to winning and forget all the hard work we had to do to make it upon. We cant let that happen. I was reading a few days ago in the book of proveshes and actually came across something that remind me of this fact and i thought i would share it with ou here tonight. Proveshes 24 versus 30 through 34. I went by the field of the lazy man and by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding and there it was all overgrown with thorns. Its stone wall was broken down. When i saw it, i considered it well. I looked on it. And i received instruction, a little sleep, a little slum ber, so shall your poverty come as a prowler and your need as an armed man. Thats a principle to take to heart right now. Thats something the to tell us, you cant afford to be confident, comfortable or lazy, because then well begin to have problems. If you sit still long enough, somethings going to eat you. We cant afford to sit still because the things too important that we believe in. If we lose, we cant quit. Because our opposition never quits. I i dont know if youve been watching tv lately but theyre kind of becoming unhinged. Theyve got son far left, by the time they start casting votes in january, we wont be able to see them anymore. Theyve gone so far left. The only thing that they agree on is that everything should be free. Were going to go grr a donkey to a picture of santa claus. Everything free. We have to remember two main things that got us here. One is our core conservative principles. The things that we believe in and how we communicate those values and those principles to other people, our message thats what people respond. To and the second thing is all the hard work that other folks around this room have done. And if we continue to do that we will continue to beat democrats across and in South Carolina. So thank you for beingere. [applause] so now, i want to take a moment and welcome a man who has been by ng liberal heads explode confirming in a record case. I think were up to 150 federal judges that have been confirmed. Were setting a record pace. I think were going to get so far that by the end of the president s first term, he would have appointed 1 3 of all federal judges. I give you the biggest headache on the Senate Judiciary committee, senator Lindsey Graham. [applause] senator graham thank yall. Thank you very much. Thank you. [applause] thank you all very much. Thank you. All of you must want to be a judge. Thank you very, very much. Its been a hell of a week. Im glad to be home. Youre the most normal people ive met in six months. [applause] im having the most fun ive had in politics because when with President Trump anything and everything is possible. Ill let you fill in the blank. From a Republican Point of view, dont you think we have a lot to be grateful and thankful for . Well, the first group i want to thank is the democratic party. If it werent for them, we wouldnt be doing so well. So i may be wrong, but i dont think this is going to work. Heres the deal. You lose your health care. And we give it to an illegal immigrant. I dont think thats going to work. Can you believe theyre saying this stuff . Were going to decriminalize coming into our country. You get a parking ticket. And once you pay the parking ticket, you get free health care. Im going to make a prediction. Half the people in the world will take us up on that idea. So its important we win this election. You know what, weve got to be thankful for in South Carolina is you. The activists, the people that have been doing this before it was popular and cool. Were winning now but the way were winning now is that a lot o you beliefed in party before it was cool. So thank you very much for making people like me possible. Weve got a great federal delegation. But were all good now. Ive come to like me. He likes him. O weve got a lot in common. But im here to tell you that when you look and step back, its been an incredible ride. And mick, youre part of the reason hes been so successful. You work really hard. You give him good advice. And from a Republican Point of view, and if youre a conservative, ill put this mans presidencys up against anybody including Ronald Reagan and thats saying a hell of a lot. The quality of judges is amazing. Kavanaugh and gorsuch is going to do a great job. Were about to cross 150. So this will be a legacy long after we are gone. These are young, energetic women who are going to change the federal judiciary. If you believe in cutting taxes, we have. If you believe in a strong military, yeth yesterday we voted on a budget that was by no means perfect anybody got a loved one in the military . Anybody got a friend in the military . Theyve got more money to do their job since Ronald Reagan. And theyve got a commanderinchief whos got heir back. Weve got a lot to be grateful for. From my point, thank you for helping me. I know i can be a handful at times. For you and them. So what you saw this week was frustration. I tried to work across the aisle when it makes sense. Im trying to get things done that need to be done. But i will not have my good nature abused. Im from South Carolina. Smiling faces, beautiful faces. But dont take us for granted. And dont play us. So ladies and gentlemen, when it comes to the Republican Party, we have come a long way. And our neighbors in North Carolina and georgia are going to have real contest. What makes South Carolina different . You. A word of caution. Theyre hungry. Im going to have the first real opponent as a democrat than ive probably ever had. He raised a million and a half dollars every week because for every person who liked kavanaugh somebody didnt like it. But theres not enough money in the world to beat me in the senate in South Carolina because of you. [applause] whos from charleston . Whos from the first Congressional District . Lets make a pledge that were going to take that seat back in november 2020. Weve come a long way in the last 52 years. But the best is yet to come. God bless yall. This is a great, great Republican Party. It doesnt look like this everywhere in the country. But weve got it here. And were going to make it stronger and stronger. As you know, donald trump himself has said a number of times that he owes his election to the people of South Carolina, the republican didnt do quite as well. And picked it up in New Hampshire and iowa and came here and stomped it and kept on stomping the whole way through. We knows we love him. Ive heard him say tell those republicans in South Carolina, i love them. I tell you again, thats what he says. He is a great man. [applause] i want to recognize my wife. You understand putting up with the Party Chairman. We just celebrated our 41st welding wedding anniversary. Stand up, peg. Wave your hand. [applause] i told a friend, its we celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary. He said thats nothing. I just celebrated a 58. He said i know the secret of a long successful marriage. He says twice a week, we find a nice quiet restaurant. We go and have a nice quiet dinner. Two nights a week. I go on tuesday. She goes on thursday. [laughter] yall, South Carolina, ill be brief. Theres a lot id like to say. But South Carolina is redhot. Donald trump is redhot. Hes a change in the world. Weve been waiting for a man like this and weve been waiting for times like this in South Carolina. Weve got a great team. And all we have to do is stick together. , and we can being a symbol to the United States. We are punching way outside of our weight with mulvaney and tim where he is and our congressional delegation, we highly respected, highly egarded, highly influential. And were leading. It feels good for South Carolina to be leading do. Naled trump is leading. And thats leading the prosperity not only making this country strong but help making this state strong. Let me remind you briefly of some things weve done just in the short time that ive been in this office. I thought we would work with the legislature. You know what, theyre trying to do it. And so we were able to get some things done. They embraced over 60 of my executive budget proposals. This is unprecedented. We recommended ourselves, commented, determined that we were going to rebuild education in South Carolina to the highest possible quality for all of our children. Getting an keeping excellent teachers was enthusiastically embraced by both chambers and parties resulting in the first of many steps to continue strengthening our educational system which is one of the weak lynx we have. We know when businesses look to invest, they look at a lot of things. They look at the research universities. They look at the port. Theyre longing at Technical College systems which is the best in the United States. But were weak in some places in South Carolina. Being weak is not good. But being weak and not understanding it and not determining to fix it is a disaster. And we determined to fix it. We raised those salaries. We got officers going in all the schools. And we have Mental Health counselors available for every school and every district and every place in South Carolina right now because of what we did in this last year in the legislature. [applause] we also created something thats not been done before. It is a rural school district, Economic Development closing fund that will provide a spark for industry and business to go into our poorest areas in order to build those plants and build those factories to give the people jobs well. Have to have jobs, Strong Families and good education. If you take any one of the three legs of the stool away the other two fall down. We know from experience and history that throwing money at it is not the answer. Sure, it takes money. But it takes Strong Families. It takes jobs to have Strong Families. We have to have the jobs the rural area and weve taken great steps this time to do exactly that. President trump has created a strong vibrant economy and created a surplus in government in our state. So what did we do . For the First Time Ever, we decided be have to pay the money for all those critically important things. Lets do something. If we have a surplus if money that we didnt expect to come in, lets dont spend it. Lets get it back to the taxpayers. Youre going to be getting a check for the first time in your life back from the government of South Carolina for t surplus that you created by going to work and working. [applause] for the First Time Ever we froze tuition and fees for sons and daughters of South Carolina for our schools and universities. For the First Time Ever, its time to reign in tuition and spending and to remind our friends in academics that Higher Education is to enrich our families and not impositiverish them. Were making progress there as well. Speaking of ack dem yeah, i hope you may have academia, i hope you may have noticed that we have threestar general robert castlin who is working as the president of the university of South Carolina. We need more leaders like bob in Public Service in South Carolina, which is one reason that we are proud to announce that we have a new powerful cabinet agency. For the First Time Ever we have the department of veterans affairs. Were going to look after our veterans and keep them safe and keep them engaged in our society. You remember mark demrark world war ii . He ended up being the president of the citadel. He said that South Carolina has more patriotism per square inch than any place in the world. I believe it. This is a military state. We have military traditions. And when you combine our military tradition with our great tradition of faith, our Judeo Christian faith, you combine that with living in paradise with the mountains and the rivers and the beaches and the streams, you come up with businesses and all kinds of people want to work in South Carolina. Businesses all over the world tell me the same thing. Sometimes its different languages. Sometimes we have interpreters. But they say the same thing. They can go anywhere in the world. But they co into South Carolina. Is here, mercedes is here. They say the people of South Carolina, it is a handshake state. Theyre loifment theyre honest, hard working. Dependable and smart. When they give you their word theyll keep it. Thats the core of thats the core of our republican creed. It is the core of what we believe in. And it is what is making us a great and greater state. But there are some things we have to do. And i want your help to do. Because were really flying high. Lindsay mentioned georgia, North Carolina. Theyre looking at us every day. Florida doesnt have an income tax. Its too high. Its too high. Weve got to cut the income tax. 2. 2 have proposed about a billion cut across all of
