CSPAN Woodstock Music Festival Historic Site July 14, 2024

We thank you for your time. The organizer of the festival, the original plan was to have it in woodstock, about 60 miles north east of here. And woodstock, new york was a Bohemian Community and a lot of musicians lived there off and on, including bob dylan, the band, richie havens, van morrison. The organizers called their Company Woodstock ventures and they started looking for a place for their festival. They could not find a place in woodstock that was large enough. They found a property that might have worked in saugerties, down the road from woodstock, but that fell through. Out of desperation, they found in Industrial Park near middletown, new york in the town of wallkill. It was very flat, kind of an interesting land, but it had Good Transportation access. They started building, they started advertising, the built the stage, they had an artist. Everything was going smoothly until the locals caught wind of what they were doing and it was not going to be a 50,000 person folk festival after all, what they were promised. Jimi hendrix had been booked and a number of nonfolk bands were booked very prominently and the town rewrote its laws to outlaw the festival. That left Woodstock Ventures with about four weeks to find another location. That is when they came in contact with max. Max is a dairy farmer in bethel, 90 miles northwest of new york city. When Woodstock Ventures approached him in july of 1969 and ask if he had any property that might be suitable for a rock festival, when he showed them a couple of pieces of land and when they came to this property which was one of his hay fields, he grew off cell phone on this hill, Woodstock Ventures partners noticed it was a natural bowl. It was a perfect shape perfect , size for the type of rock festival they wanted to have and on the spot they made a deal with max to lease his property for the rest of the month so that they could move their rock festival from wallkill, new york to bethel. The rest is history. Bethel is like it was in 1969. The road system has not been upgraded very much and the economy is still very rural. Max and mariam left bethel shortly after woodstock, they moved to florida and soon after, he died. The property went to a woman by the name of june and she kept the property, cap did agricultural. In the mid1990s, she put the property up for sale and a local man by the name of alan gary set and purchasedn the land. He recognized woodstock was a big part of this regions history and worthy of commemoration, and created Bethel Woods Center for the arts , which has an outdoor pavilion, a worldclass museum, and the Historic Site itself. Our mission is to inspire people to followe arts and at least the good examples of the 1960s of peace, brotherhood, acceptance. The people that come here can feel that just by walking the grounds here they feel that five. As you file returns and you are asking for a refund, you go through the fraud detection system. It has a high false positive rate. 81 of the nonidentity theft returns last we are last year that were identified for questionable items not related to identity theft, but inflated wages or something or just a mismatch of information, 81 of the returns the irs stopped were actually legitimate. Falses an abominably high positive rate. We have been really focusing systemically to get that fixed because that has been the largest portion of our cases. They increase by 287 last year from the year before, and if we can get them cleared out of the system, we would be able to do good things.
