Chaotically. We do not have a good sense for how quickly this race is going to be settled. Something ive heard from a lot of rankandfile members ive spoken with today is that nobody has a clear path yet. That may change. Obsolete the house is out right now. Theyre going to be signing each other out next tuesday with the idea of holding the election on wednesday. But i think even at this point with two candidates it is not clear whether or not theres a real clear path for somebody to get the support they need to be elected speaker. So a lot of fluid dynamics in this race, which is still unfolding. Host are we hearing where other candidates are jumping in for speaker . Anthony my colleague reported that kevin ohearn is taking a close look at the race. There been other names bandied about as well, although we have not heard a ton of serious rumbling. One possibility is if neither Steve Scalise nor jim jordan is able to get those votes that they need to be elected speaker i wonder if you might see somebody else come up, somebody who is not on our radar at this point. So, obviously thats down the road but i do not know that weve seen the whole roster of those that will throw their hats into the ring at this point. Host to get to 218, a majority, it will take some of those eight republicans who voted to remove speaker mccarthy. They still hold a balance of power. We know what they want . Anthony well, they in many ways hold quite a bit of power but i would actually look to different factions now. I think there is a number of people, something ive heard from multiple members today, who are so upset with how things played out yesterday on the floor, with former speaker mccarthy, that they are not prepared to back anybody yet. And, whether or not that changes may ultimately they ultimately do select candidate we have to see but i think they will have to hear, one of the things we have heard mentioned a lot of time today has been the need for rules to be changed so you cannot trigger the with one person. I think you will have to also address a lot of the concerns of some of those members. So, theres all lot that, for the front runner, they will have to do to address those concerns. Host we are talking with anthony adragna, from politico, what role might the temporary speaker Patrick Mchenry play . Anthony something ive heard is that we are in an unprecedented space here. There had never been a successful effort to oust a speaker up until yesterday and so the caretaking role really has not been tested before. Ive heard from several members that they view this as ministerial. As a parliamentarian and the rules committee, essentially he will be running the election for speaker, making sure the house is able to function in some capacity but the real limits of this power of his power have yet to be tested. It is going to be interesting to see exactly how he approaches this. Ive been speaking with members of the press in the hallway. I think we will have to wait and see exactly how expansively republicans view that office. Host also, what role could he play perhaps influencing who the neck speaker will be . Anthony another great point. He was quite close, is quite close with former speaker mccarthy. So, as to whether or not how much sway that holds with as to how legislative that holds with the conference at this point, that remains uncertain. But he is definitely someone to watch as the race takes shape and as we get more serious with people trying to rally a ratchet up support. Host congressman jim jordan of ohio and Steve Scalise of louisiana making their announcement that they are running for speaker. What are their campaign pitches to the members at the start of the race . Guest that is what we will have to wait and see. There has been a lot of talk of needing to address the southern border, of trying to get the appropriations process down to each of the 12 spending bills. Those are going to be key priorities. Something we heard from members today is that they are still trying to figure out what the differences may be. Both are obviously members who have lengthy conservative voting records. Both have been prominent. Leader studies has been in Republican Leadership for a while. Congressman jordan is obviously the leader of the judiciary committee. They are well known throughout the conference. How they distinguished between themselves will be worthy of close attention as the race takes shape. Host finally i will go back to the headline and article on politico. Com, you refer to leadership spots. So while we are focusing on the speaker, depending on who gets elected there, its going to open up and cause a cascade effect. Guest absolutely. That is something worth watching. We have seen majority whip tom emmer announce his intention to run for majority leader. A lot of those offices are going to depend on who ultimately emerges at the top. If leader scalise was not elevated to speaker then he might opt to stay in the majority leader position. There is going to be a cascade of people moving those chairs around depending on how the speaker election emerges, so we will have to see how this looks like in terms of the other side of Republican Leadership. Host anthony and dragnet, politico congressional reporter. Thank you very much. Guest thank you. The resolution is adopted without. Objection, the motion to reconsider is laid on the table.
