We need to get about our business. Tonight i arrives for another issue. It is playing on the Little League teams and running for Student Government and marching in the school band. Just like americas kids, they showed up to class and did theig homework. They pushed forth with every expectation building a future for themselves and their communities. The only difference between them is the kids covered by daca came to america as documented immigrants. Many of these kids didnt even know they didnt have the legal status. They know that firsthand because they used tthe used to be the superintendent of public schoolg and it was about ninth grade tht children would realize they had no country other than the United States has their home but they didnt have a legal status no fault of their own without document status and a lot of the kids found out the hard way asking for features they didntt have them applying for aid if they were ineligible to receive into the possibility of being ripped from friends and family at any time but they ended up and stopped that. There were nearly 800,000 young adults from deportation and gave them presence in the only country that theyve known to build a future, and that is precisely what theyve done since it was enacted the young people that have enrolled in the program have grown into young adults into the pay taxes, they started businesses, theyve bought homes, raising families. In colorado over 17,000 young people came forward to take the government at its word to share their information and apply. Each one of them placed their faith in us to protect them and their families until we came to a longterm solution about their status. Today President Trump has betrayed that trust 90 of the recipients were and seve seven n have bachelors degrees or higher and pay taxes over the th next two years. Colorado alone stands over 850 million in Economic Activities every single year as a result of this decision. Now parents all across america are planning on where to send their kid if they are deported. They are working together over a period of eight months in a process that i think should be justifiably proud of. People are sitting down to actually solve the problems that are facing this country in aer bipartisan way we are making trades. We knew that securing the border was an important good. At the house with the American People wanted us to do is pass the bill and wouldnt go through the agony of what the administration is doing to immigrants in this country righe now. Joining me as a cosponsor of the dream act we had an opportunity to come together as republicans and democrats to give young people thipeople for certainty y deserve and illegal passage in thi this isnt about left versus right although i say that in abt every place. But she was determined to make it work anyway. She cleaned houses with her mom and talked spanish, all that helped but it wasnt enough and by her junior year they have little money left but she nearly had to drop out and then daca came into the end she was able to secure federal Student Loans and graduate from for fort Flora College in durango. They wanted to pay it forward by helping other kids achieve. They came to denver when she was just 3yearsold and they worked in the community for over two decades. Igh he was the first person in the family to graduate high school but after graduating he couldnt get a job because he didnt have a Social Security card and couldnt get drivers licensesns for Student Loans. Then the president announced daca in 2012 and he got his drivers license and Financial Aid for the university of colorado. As he studied for a degree in finance they worked as an intern in the state capital. Then we learned something about politics and was voted student body president by his peers at the university of colorado at. His two younger brothers and sisters as is often the case in the decent and compassionate. Administration would find a way to stay in the only community he knows, smart and a forwardlooking administration would see his talent and a commitment to the nation and the administration would recognize the best coffees, hard work, family perseverance and service. But instead, and i regret this, we have the Trump Administration which threatens to rip them from their families and the community that they both can colorado to deprive our nation of their obvious and considerable talent. The administration has a decision today for hundreds of thousands of people like marco. And marissa into needless chaos and fear and for what . To satisfy and the majority of republicans in my state not only support the dream act as a pathway to citizenship. Todays decision is just thee t latest example of the violence that this president has done to the countrys traditions because of his rhetoric against immigrants and muslims in his is equivocation about white nationalists. There is a deep unease in this country. Ive heard it in the town hallss across colorado. In times like these is false on all of us not just people in the senate all of us to put our hand on someone elses shoulder and say im glad youre here, thank you for the contribution that youve made by working in our fields and factories. We are grateful for what youve done for our communities and we are glad you are studying at the universities of denver or csu. We need legislation to undo the action today this goes well beyond any wal law in the bookst goes to who we are as a nation. Earlier this year i hosted five College Students at my home who received protection. I joined my colleague from coll talk about to end th the end ofe production for childhood rivals program this program put in place for the lastto administration gave the certainty and predictability to so many Young Children brought c to the United States through not their own actions but other aftr actions, and as my colleague talked to story after story, young people who literally apply for college aid only to find out that they were not here legally and couldnt receive that kind of Financial Assistance thats t why since 2001 ive been a supporter of the dream act and tonight i cannot believe that this is the message from this president in a remarkable act of courage and trust, 17,500 young deferred action recipients are working and contributing to the economy in my state in the state of washington. These recipients must admit biographical information and biometric information to allowr, the states homelan homeland secd agencies to complete background checks. Theyve never committed a felony, they must have a job and be in school or serve in the military. Anything in the program is taking the workers out of the state, taking gross domesticon products in over a Million Dollars that it would cost the nation over the next several the president s decision to end daca must counter to the longstanding and proud history in our state welcomin immigrants, dreamers invest in the communities and pay state and local taxes and in fact thea chamber of commerce supports this program as does a majority of americans and over 300 Business Leaders agree that it helps us to build a better and more prosperous america. Just today one of our companies with the key microsoft we need to make sure we are giving young people who benefited from participating in the economy thi certainty that they will continue to be here in the United States to continue toi serve in the military. I hope that my colleagues willnd take this serious. Theyve been working since 4 00 this afternoon on the 2,018th spending bill they are trying to finish those up in the house. Those includes the department of commerce, education, labor and health and human services. Also they then took the funding for Hurricane Harvey release. We expect them back at 10 00 to take a couple of votes and then they are back again tomorrow at 2 00 eastern. We will have coverage on cspan three when they come back tomorrow we are going to stay on cspan2 with the rest of the House Rules Committee and in the meantime as we move to return i will show you todays white house briefing
