Well, mostly, unfortunately, i have to read News Analysis and policylike papers and academic journals. But when i read for entertainment and pleasure, its usually when i travel. I just have come back from greece, and so i was reading books either by greek authors or about greece. Ive done that a number of times in the past and have been through kind of the usual suspects, durrell, chiarelli, mandolin, nicholas gage. So i looked for something a little bit different. This time i read a book called the silence of the girls, and this is a mann booker award winner. Pat barton, a british writer, and its the iliad as told from the perspective of a woman. On the lighter or maybe darker side, i read a couple of mysteries that are set in greece. One was called murder in mykonos, and thats written by an expatriot whose name wasly seeger. A really good one was the house on paradise street, and this is the story of a family torn apart by the greek civil war. And its like any civil war where a family usually comes up to or often comes down on different sides. And that was written by sophia [inaudible] and finally, just really just kind of a beach book by meg densely is nights of rain and stars, and thats the story of four probag nists whose protagonists whose lives intersect, and one of them is a College Professor whos on sabbatical, so i could personally identify with that. How do you select the books you are going to read . Well, there are different travel blogs on the internet. The library of congress is great for supplying those books. Sometimes friends recommend them, and i also on the airplane always read the New York Times review of books for suggestions. Find out what other members of congress are reading by visiting booktv.
