“I think all 30 teams know what I can do. I can be really good. I can do damage to the other team. So I’m relaxing. I’m playing my game,” Cubs shortstop Javy Baez said. Baez is set to become a free agent after this season. Ashley Landis/AP Javy Baez will play shortstop for the Cubs for 158 more games as things stand between him and the team. And while both sides hope Baez will be in Chicago much longer, until he signs an extension, every day is another day closer to him hitting the open market. It’s a good time to be a shortstop, and with what is on the horizon for potential free agents, the idea of being the next player in line for a monster contract has to be tantalizing.
