A rescue team was called to the Lake District to identify bones which were at first thought to be human. Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit was called out by Cumbria police on Tuesday to assist with the identification of bones a member of the public had discovered underground at the weekend. The finder was concerned that the bones could be human remains. A spokesperson for the ore mines rescue unit said: “A small group of COMRU members made their way to the central Lake District slate mine in poor conditions, located and identified the bones to be those of a heavily-decomposed sheep.”
