The Horowhenua District Council is looking at its options to repair the wharf. Council infrastructure development group mamager Brent Maguire said repairs were likely to include a sloped rock wall that reduced coastal erosion by absorbing wave energy. It would also include concrete work, with new footpaths and a car park. “While we are there, we will take the opportunity to improve public amenity as well as carrying out the necessary repairs.” The council did not know when the work could be completed and was waiting on a detailed design, and compliance and consent conditions. Maguire said costs were estimated at $350,000. He did not know how much each party would contribute.
